Unfortunately, the time has come for me to leave Lemmy. Time will show where we all end up. I’ll see you in the future… maybe sooner than you think?
Edit: Follow up post is here. Don’t worry. You’re not getting rid of me that easy. I’m just switching to piefed.world
Is this merely switching from Lemmy to something else, or are you leaving the fediverse completely?
If it’s the latter, then I wish you the very best of luck. I don’t know you very well, but I remember you having had some personal issues in the past. Hopefully those aren’t coming back and you’ve just decided to simply move on. Regardless, your memes and shitposting will be missed.
Good luck to you! Or, as a wise man once wrote, “So long, and thanks for all the fish!”

aye piefed gang
What is a piefed?

Thanks! Making an account
What did the Lemmy dev team do that was transphobic?
you should have a look at this https://lemmy.ca/post/26211900
That “biological man” term is so fucking annoying. I know, I know, it’s because of transphobia, but “trans woman” already covers that!
Not worries. Meant every word. Plus I got to make an H2G2 reference. Everybody wins.
deleted by creator
Oh, any specific reason you’re switching software?

Which then lines up with the third big reason, the Lemmy devs are transphobic assholes.
This is kinda a big deal for me too tbh. Do you happen to know, is there a good (android) piefed app, or is it website only for now? I imagine there’ll be some of their aren’t already, but my brief play store search wasn’t very fruitful.

Voyager does support PieFed now, and, while it’s still developing, it’s come along quickly and can be used as a daily driver. Interstellar also supports PieFed, but I like Voyager better (just personal preference I guess). I’ve seen that Mlem is working on PieFed support for iOS.
Hey, no worries! Just wanted to check, thanks anyway :)
Voyager does have some support, can confirm!
Haha, convincing or persistent? I guess he can be both :p

LMAO
I’m unfortunately stuck here until Boost implements PieFed support

Oh please tell me it’s actually in the works. I want to switch to piefed but I’ve been a Boost user for years and every time I try to get used to something else I’m just reminded how much I like Boost.

But will it continue to be your last post in the future? Or is it simply your last post at this moment?
YT:
They only offer Premium LITE now, which feels extremely ironic after rejecting it all these years. It’s like: “So, you declined my offer for years but have you considered… a WORSE OFFER, human?”
YouTube keeps showing me offers to give me two months premium for free, but when I click it they offer only one.
I’m pretty sure this is illegal in the EU but I can’t be bothered so I stick with the ad blocker and reset the cookies every once in a while.
I’m sorry to see you go. If you change your mind, we’ll be here to welcome you back with open arms. Be safe.

You cheeky bastard! 🤣

Are you getting harassed again or taking a break, cuz life?

I really like sh.itjust.works and I’m a mod here. But if I wasn’t, I’d be going to piefed’s main instance in a second. They seem to have a nice configuration. Not a fan of world, but I’m sure there are other great instances.

What’s the issue with memes? I have a piefed.social account set up for when the platform is mature enough for me to bail on Lemmy, but I’ll happily go elsewhere if there’s a good reason.
deleted by creator
Ah, okay. As long as .social is just limiting hosting memes, not blocking them from elsewhere, I don’t have a problem with them. I’m with you, I think memes have their place.
Hope you’re okay OP

I continue to download all videos and watch them locally to skip out on ads. Some channels bake them right in the video, but a few quick mouse clicks jump me over that garbage. When downloads stop working, I will find something else to pass the time.
Any chance they’ll become fully interoperable? I mean, besides the standard fediverse account stuff. Ideally, being able to scroll my All feed on piefed and seeing Lemmy posts in there. I just don’t want to go back to a ghost town like the Lemmy of 2 years ago.
Also, thanks for all the posts! You and Picard were the backbone of this place in the bad old days.
EDIT: I just noticed a piefed post in my feed. The future is now!
EDIT EDIT: It was a piefed user, I’m dumb.
They fully work together. You can see piefed posts on lemmy and vice versa! From my understanding anyway. Just go to lemmy.world/c/support@piefed.world or something and you should be able to see posts with no issue.

I demand my M&Ms be gendered and fuckable!
I’d be more than willing to throw them a couple of euros each month. But paying like 14 per month for something I get for free now is just too much.
They’ve been making money off my private data for years, I ain’t paying for shit now
There’s no way YouTube is a profitable business.
That’s been my feeling all along. $5-10 per month I can justify, but I really can’t justify $23/mo to cover both my and my wife’s accounts, especially given that they reportedly still sometimes show ads to premium subscribers. And honestly when they were getting really pushy about subscribing a year or two ago I refused because I don’t give in to pushiness like that by tech companies
they reportedly still sometimes show ads to premium subscribers
I’ve been on YouTube Premium since it was YouTube Red, and I’ve never seen an ad when I’m logged in.
I justify it because YouTube Music is included, so I can get music streaming without paying for a similar service from Spotify or Apple or Amazon or whomever, and also get ad-free YouTube on all my devices and whatnot.
Good for you, but it doesn’t take much searching to find “I pay for premium, why am I seeing ads?”
My group of friends pay €5.50 each for premium.
Spotify is €14.61.
With YouTube Family it’s €5.50 for me and my friends.
I thought federated meant people see your posts no matter where you log in. But if going to piefed means you’re “leaving” lemmy, kthxbye I guess. I don’t see the need for an announcement.
If you’re using a 3rd party client like Boost or Voyager it might not recognize the pifed domain as an activitypub instance… our friendly devs are doing there best
I’m just looking at lemmy.world in a web browser - does that count?
