Unbelievably loud and smells like chlorine.
But the 5 year old in me is super excited.
But it’s a beautiful loud.
5 year old you didn’t know or care how much of that water is just bodily fluids and emanations and soaked diaper water.
Rightly so. Because it’s a ridiculous low percentage of the total water of the pool, lol.
But it is not zero, that is the point.
It’s hardly zero anywhere humans traverse
The amount of shit in the air you breathe is also not zero. And you still breathe it don’t you
Core memory unlocked. Completely forgot they had these growing up.
The water park I used to go to had one of these until it was demolished for apartments, then I saw one at lake Compounce
Damn never thought I’d see a lake compounce reference
I would love to be under there sipping a gin and tonic, but not sure how to get under there without it being topped off with chlorinated water.
Maybe this is why some drinks are served with little umbrellas.
This was the most Jerry Seinfeld comment I’ve ever seen on Lemmy. Bravo!
I’m here all week, folks.
Actually, I don’t think you ever leave.

My brother married a Mexican woman and during their first Thanksgiving together, sitting around the table with family members, my brother made a joking comment saying “now it’s time for the Airing of Grievances!”
His wife’s brother (who apparently wasn’t a Seinfeld fan) misheard him as having said “the Aryan Grievances” and was like “what sort of fucked up white people shit is this?!”
Hope he greets his in-laws with Hail’o, just to mess with them.

Where I live it’s illegal to be drinking in public on beaches but you see

a lot which are universally understood to contain alcohol of some variety
Core memory unlocked. My childhood public pool had one of these and it was incredibly loud
I absolutely have permanent hearing damage from one of these things. Worth it though
The completely masculine urge to sit down in the shallow water underneath the rain mushroom.
Masculinity is overrated anyway
Machismo is overrated.
There are honorable qualities of traditional masculinity that are grossly underrated these days. Like honesty and the view that a ‘real’ man takes responsibility for their work and gets shit done. Or that a real man respects women and their sometimes very different struggles.
Why is honesty and responsibility gendered?
They’re saying the ideal man has those qualities, not that everyone with those qualities is a man.
“I like waffles”
“so what, you hate pancakes?”
you’re the only person asserting they are. having a trait be associated with an ideal of a gender doesn’t mean it’s an exclusive association.
In my experience, honesty and responsibility are not gendered, they’re endangered.

professional with installation would click-for-quote expensive.
Needs a big ass-pump.
You could diy it, but you’ll need to be multi-talented
The dome is just fiberglass and expoy. The post would probably be best as steel. Dedicated pool pump, you’d have a hell of a time anchroing it into an existing pool.
Without the white spots to indicate an amanita muscaria, this mushroom spout is fucking garbage and should be rejected as such. Have they even drank the piss from reindeer in falll? I think not.
On Planet Coaster 314 dollars. So that is the real price too
I can’t imagine how many gallons of water it goes through at a time though.
edit: lol I’m dumb. Its just moving around the water that’s already there. Still though, better add a pool to the supply list.
Avoid the mushroom fountain if you ever go to Bonnaroo. It looks nice, but the water is untreated and recycled.
Practically all water themed activities with kids are great places to see what disease or fungus you can catch. Seen a kid shit on the ground at a splash pad and they just mopped it up and turned the water back on.
Also those fountains on the ground are essentially bidets because most kids don’t wipe their ass well.
Sure but they also chlorinate the absolute crap out of them so while it’s gross you’re unlikely to actually catch something. The chlorine just destroys your hair and clothing and skin.
Mostly, cryptosporidium doesn’t give a fuck and it’ll come out of a kids ass.
The parasite needs to be in heavily chlorinated water for awhile to break through it’s thick membrane.
Since the water is flying around at splash pads it’s usually going to survive a lot longer than in a pool and even in a regular pool chlorine is not full proof.
There’s an outdoor public pool in the park near my home, and in the ‘kids section’ there is one of these. Very popular this time of year.
Very popular this time of year.
My city’s public pools close at the beginning of August for some stupid-ass reason.
August used to be the start of fall and wasn’t normally still hot as fuck.
I guess it depends on your locale, but august has always been summer. (Northern hemisphere of course). The equinox isn’t until the end of September.
A reverse umbrella.
It’s the biggest hummingbird bath I’ve ever seen.
The way government build contracts work, that addition probably cost tax payers millions. Meanwhile, you or I could contract the work of a inground pool with mushroom for $150k ($125k pool, $25k mushroom/fountain) if Google is to be believed.
It could be done for a lot less than that, especially if you go with a splash pad version instead of a pool.

That mushroom looks like shit. Compare that with OP picture.
Hey you get what you pay for
I get the sentiment, but that WATERPARK is considerably larger and more elaborate than the in ground pool in a backyard.
The way government build contracts work,
You mean through a competitive bidding process?
Not to go toooooo far down the rabbit hole here, but even that is a “kind of”.
Specifications can (and often are) written in a way to limit potential bidders. Lets say there are three manufacturers of these things that have good build quality, but I want to target a specific manufacturer. I could put in specific upper and lower constraints for height, width, flow rate, etc, and then I can say that due to the site conditions (which were designed to those criteria) only one manufacturer is eligible.
I can then add specific restrictions for installation certifications, warranty coverage, distance requirements for eligible servicing personnel, etc.
While all this may seem reasonable and practical in the spec, its really just a way to control who is eligible for competing on the bid.
And if I was really shitty, I could leave specific things ambiguous so a company can come in really low on the bid to get picked, who then issues a change order because of that thing. Which then makes the cost higher than the losing bidder who included it from the start.
Its not really as competitive as you think, thats part of the disgusting game being played.
Change orders aren’t a unilateral process… What you’re describing is a corrupt government. It’s not the norm.
I’m describing what I saw from many governments and comittees from when I used to review these specs for bidding.
I would have to disagree its not the norm, governments are always corrupted in some way, but thats a much more divergent discussion.
I can say with confidence that the overwhelming majority of specs are written to include or exclude specific bidders though. My work is and was global, too, so this isn’t a US only issue.
How much they do to control the bidders list will vary though.
What you’re describing is a corrupt government. It’s not the norm.
Are we pretending that corruption isn’t the norm?
Local municipalities? No, it’s not.
But maybe I’m spoiled by blue states
