I used to work with sometime who’s apartment was regularly requested to be used to shoot scenes for some movie or show or another. She got paid while they filmed inside for a few days.
had this happen kinda nearby where an employee of a small haircuts place decapitated her boss

Should have given that raise, they’re obviously a cut above the rest
They took a little too much off the top.
sigh *upvotes*
Back in the late 90s there was a brutal multiple victim murder where some random guy walked into the back of a local restaurant before it opened and killed everyone in the kitchen. Some TV station did a true crime story on it where they changed the all the names but the local police had a copy and knew it was that story. I kind of realized then that they just pull the subject case out of a hat and slap on The Voice, a camera filter, and follow the formula of tense interviews and add breaks.
Fargo was a lot of fun
Fortunately not serial killers, but the HBO documentary Telemarketers (good watch, highly recommend) was shot in NJ, and I saw many locations very close to my home. Always neat to see.
I watched Don’t Fuck With Cats, the documentary about Luka Magnotta and the murder he committed. I had just moved back to my hometown after being away for some 15 years. I wasn’t familiar with what had happened but knew the name and confused him with the guy that stabbed an Asian man to death in the back of a bus around the same time. I was very very confused when I started to see drone shots of my neighborhood at the start of the second episode, seeing my morning bus stop and post office currently and then discovering that the place where the body was left was one of the spots I used to play at as a child.
It was a wild discovery.
I met one not long before he was captured. Dude was singing karaoke with a victim at a bar. We were booing him because the girl did not look like she wanted to be there.
She later got away and he got caught.I hate seeing anything at all about Dahmer because i personally know some of the victim’s families
/laughs in Washingtonian
Never had my neighborhood on a cop show, but I have lived near multiple school shootings. Does that count?
I’ve watched a true crime doc that had some re-enactment (well not of a crime) filler, if that makes sense. Like actor who stands outside a house. Anyways they showed a car navigation system and my city was listed for a list of supposed places this person had visited. It seemed to have been generated at random. No evidence they had actually been to my city.
Hopefully this made sense. It was American Nightmare on Netflix.
