Literally every edible horror story I’ve heard starts with “I took one but I wasn’t feeling it, so I took another one…”

I consume THC primarily through edibles so I am often the guy people come to for their first time getting high. I give new users 5mg and I tell them to wait for an hour. For first timers it can take a little longer for them to notice. Sometimes I will make sure they get up and do some jumping jacks or something to get that blood moving.

If after one hour a new user is not reporting feeling any different from 5mg I will give them 5mg more and tell them not to take another gummy for at least 5 hours. I would say 95% of the time that second 5mg they do start to feel it properly.

I should note that everyone is different and some people will not ever feel 5mg and some people (like my father) take 2.5mg because that’s all he needs. After doing this for years with a lot of people I feel confident in saying that 5mg and an hour wait should work on 75% of people.

My little sister who weighs next to nothing compared to me barely notices 10mg so your milage may vary. It’s a bit like alcohol. Some people get drunk off one glass of wine. Some people need a whole bottle to feel anything. Always take it slow your first time and it’s ok if you don’t feel anything the first time. There is almost nothing worse than going way too far on your first time with THC. My brother did that for me and I was coughing and throwing up for like 20 minutes before I basically passed out in the backyard.

well fuck, so yeah they just don’t work for me

last time I tried I took 30mg in an hour and I couldn’t tell if what I felt (calmness) was placebo or just because it was a beautiful fresh snowy evening

I already made that mistake once. Incredibly shitty night. Half of one would have had me zoning the fuck out and I ate two …

Pro tip: First time you do edibles, take someone who had edibles before or at least made a joint before. Don’t just be among other other noobs like me.

And preferably whenever you do drugs for the first time, get a sitter. Everyone being drunk/high/tripping/whatever makes for a poor situation if something does go wrong.

alternatively, maybe don’t be with people with much higher tolerance than yourself. my first time with edibles my friends who were huge potheads and about half my size were taking like 80mg, so I said, “oh, I should be able to do like 50 then, right?” and they did not tell me no

Sounds like my first time with edibles too lmao

How many days until you were able to speak a coherent sentence after that?

I was fine the next day, but I remember almost nothing about that night, and what I do remember from early on in the evening is that I was worried I would get lost on the way to the bathroom

I was that friend when I came back from college once. A group of friends and I bought 2x brownies each. These suckers were so strong I could smell them from a different room.

Told everyone to just eat 1/4 of one (they were 3"x3") and wait 30 minutes. They all said, “Lol, no. We’ll be fine,” and ate both at once.

They were not fine. It wasn’t their first edible, but this was around the time that really potent weed was hitting the market in our Podunk town and their only experience was ditch weed edibles.

I thought my edible was spiked and got super nervous. Not to mention that I was alone. I made myself go to sleep ASAP and was fortunately fine the next morning

That’s also why you should keep some other delicious snacks handy. Sometimes you start feeling good and crave another brownie :)

The first several times I tried edibles they did nothing. I didn’t know that can just happen to people. So each time, I waited a few days and tried again. But, figuring the last one did literally nothing, I doubled the dose the next time.

I paused at 40mg, wondering if that was really a good idea. It wasn’t. When it hit, time literally stopped. A minute felt like an hour. But I had only myself to blame and I was super high, so I thought it was funny as fuck. I got ready for bed, giggling to myself constantly, then passed the fuck out.

It’s still funny to me, and it always reminds me that mindset is huge. That was the first time I ever tried weed and I could have freaked out, but I just accepted my mistake and laughed at how stupid I was. It makes it a good memory.

The problem with edibles, even store bought ones, is that the actual THC concentration can vary wildly from what’s on the package. And if it’s a pack of gummies or something, it’s not uncommon for each gummy to have a different concentration.

Someone at a festival once gave me an edible, it didn’t do anything. Maybe I should’ve had a second one, because the one not doing anything was a little disappointing.

Careful the next time the opportunity presents itself. The previous experience has little bearing on the next as you have no idea of the efficacy of the random edible.

You need to wait ~45 minutes, then loudly complain “these edibles ain’t shit!”

That’s the activation phrase. The THC in your digestive tract needs to hear that to start working.

You can’t consider that without also considering the alternative: Is going sober at a festival preferable to possibly taking too many edibles while in public?

I actually can’t get high from edibles. It really sucks, I’ve always wanted to experience it since people say it’s different. I’ve tested myself by eating 3g of RSO. Probably once a year I’ll eat 1g to see if anything a changed and it never does.

Dude, you’re not gonna believe this but hear me out. You are high right now. This isn’t real. Lemmy isn’t real. You ate some shrooms and have been high for what may feel like a year now. Its not been a year. You’re in your room on your bed. Its 10PM. Its July 2025.

      Edibles are bizarre.

I switched to edibles-only right around Covid because… well, I was scared of Covid and compromising my lungs seemed like a luxury I couldn’t afford anymore (well, I probably couldn’t in the first place but that isn’t the point). RSO strictly does not work for me, as you’ve said — I have eaten copious amounts of RSO sober and it just doesn’t do shit.

Many of the dispensary edibles I tried simply didn’t work. I’m not sure if it has something to do with legislation not being strict on quality control, or if I got scammed, or if there’s something magical and abnormal about my stomach acid – I do not know.

Point is, I had to try many edibles before I actually found a brand of them that got me to where I wanted to be. You might be facing something similar, you could always try creating pot brownies yourself from scratch — unless you have.

You’re not missing much. It’s like the difference between getting trashed on red wine vs. beer. More of a body buzz.

You wanna feel amazing do bottlera through the nose that shit wrecks your brain. I will never be able to get as high as I did as a teenager because of that.
