I don’t think you would melt, considering your own mouth is full of saliva and does fine. You would be at huge risk of infection though.

Physically, I don’t think so; the main enzyme in saliva mainly digests starch, which humans are not made of

More likely, you’d drown eventually due to not being let out, which would be one of the crazier ways to die I guess, up their with that time when some nobles drowned in fecal matter

I’m pretty sure the primary enzymes in saliva are amalyse and lipase. They start to break down starches and fats respective. You’d probably needs something that breaks down protiens to have any effect on your skin.

Or be mashed into a pulp so the lipase could get to work…

FWIW, saliva contains epidermal growth factor, which is actually good for the skin. It’s one of the reasons the insides of our mouths heal so quickly.

Which is also why animals lick their wounds, I believe.

For the amount of rinsing and the bacteria from the mouth potentially being stronger than what’s in the wound (and more abundant and less likely to cause infection) this seems fine.

I always hear quotes that dog mouths are cleaner than human, but that’s in quantity of bacteria types not quality

I think you would drown first. Wait, would you be able to float in spit? Depends on how salty/contaminated with gunk it is. Assuming you don’t drown, I don’t think you would dissolve in spit, as your skin is pretty tough. If you stick a chicken leg in your mouth for a bit, sure it would get gooey and yucky, but it wouldn’t just dissolve. That’s what your stomach acid is for. I think saliva softens up the food, but not dissolve it, but I didn’t choose Biology, so what do I know.

There’s also a very high likelihood that you get really sick though, who knows what’s in that spit? Not to the mention it’s probably from hundreds, if not thousands people given that there’s enough to fill an entire pool.

It definitely wouldn’t be good for your skin. That being said, your first concern would be becoming exhausted and drowning. If you’re eventually let out before you die, it would be a factor in your recovery, though.
