Dame Diana Johnson told MPs harmful content online was “fuelling violent sexual encounters”.
Is that true though? They don’t cite any studies. They just say “trust me bro”.
And isn’t most of that porn of people that WANT to be choked etc? And not the person doing the choking?
If i am wrong, please say so.
LIke anything they can ban it all they want but its not going to stop people dying from autoerotic asphyxiation. Like I don’t think the sopranos thing with tonys sister is a total fantasy and something like that does not go on. kinks are going to be dangerous or not. Are they going to ban films about mountain climbing because some people die doing it?
I could actually see the danger increasing, I haven’t researched this specifically myself, but I know that there are educational content for other kinks that which teaches safety that are very useful.
Especially in terms of stuff like breathplay, videos like that could absolutely save lives, but would be banned under this new law.
People will explore their kinks, regardless of what is banned or not.
Exactly. Its ridiculous to ban this.
It’s in line with their banning of the rough sex defence where dangerous men were claiming they accidentally killed their partner during sex. Non fatal strangulation is also a stand alone defence as it’s a well known risk factor
Ah i didn’t know about that. Thank you for the info. That does give a lot more context to the news article.
No problem 😊
The real issues pressing western democracies right now. No need to deal with the housing crisis, rising inflation, diminishing quality of life, inaccessible healthcare, widening gap between the poor and the rich (systemic wealth inequality,) and so on. The real issues are trans people, porn, and other pointless discussions. They’ll have you fight a culture war so you don’t fight a class war, and in doing so they’ll tighten your shackles even more while you’re distracted.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Dame Diana Johnson told MPs: “We know that the increasing prevalence of this kind of content… is fuelling violent sexual encounters.”
I find this somewhat dubious. If you know this, why not show your work? Show us a study on the matter. Lots of people enjoy sex involving their own pain or humiliation in a healthy and consensual way. Banning a specific type of porn because it makes you feel uncomfortable is puritanism, and has a pretty poor track record of success on actually curving negative outcomes.
If you’re really concerned about people getting the wrong message from porn, then why not require porn to have pre/post checkins with the actors/actresses to affirm that it was made with enthusiastic consent. Seems to me this would do more to stop some of the real problems the porn industry has.
I posted some links above about it being used as a rough sex defence in murders, and non fatal strangulation being a stand alone criminal offence. It’s online with that
I mean, those seem like pretty good laws. They have carve outs for consent, but still punish reckless behaviour, even in a consensual setting. I’m not sure how this is related.
It’s how it’s being misused. There’s issues with porn regulation in general that should be looked at IMO
While I agree, an outright ban on a specific category of porn, especially when there seems to be no evidence that it actually encourages problematic behaviour, seems rather silly. Seems more like a personal vendetta than well thought out policy.
I see it differently but respect your point of view
