Tomorrow, breakfast will be overnight oats. Just fill an appropriate sized container with
- oats
- cocos
- frozen red fruits
- yogurt
and that sits in the fridge for a night. Usually one add some milk, but I found the frozen fruits to releases enough moisture.
My wife doesn’t understand how I can see it as food, let alone eat it, but I love oats. My daughter transports oatly (oat milk) and sometimes brings me some if the factory has a damaged pallet. I only use it to cook my oats (damn, you don’t need to add sugar with that stuff!!) and a combination of additives like raisin and/or seeds and/or nuts and/or apple. and cinnamon. you gotta have cinnamon.
Overnight oats seems like an easy healthy way to eat breakfast consistently but unfortunately I saw this tweet once and now I can’t bring myself to make them

That does not stop me. The love is too strong ;)
I think oats are like Brussels sprouts. You love it or hate it. It’s hard to find people with in-between feelings for either of them.
I love oats but hate overnight oats. Something about the texture is absolute nightmare fuel for me. Love the shit out of hot oatmeal and granola, though. And oat milk is the best tasting plant milk to me.
I love oats, and I like porridge, but oatmeal or overnight oats just doesn’t do it for me. I’ll make oat milk, oatmeal cookies, oatmeal crumble on my muffins, polenta, congee, rice pudding, but something about oats specifically seems like it makes for a poor porridge. I am glad you love it though, cuz it’s cheap and easy and fast and healthy.
Fast
That it is not …it takes all night !! (but I can sleep during the process)
I will gladly call it gruel and eat it every day.
also peasant is much closer to a compliment than it is tot an insult
If I could, I’d eat the matrix slop and never worry about food ever again. Bring on the gruel.
To be fair, peasant food is usually the best food.
Lobster!
Every once in a while I try overnight oats, and every time it feels like I’m eating wet cement. I love regular oats in the morning, but I can’t get over the glue and powder mouth feel of overnight oats. Any trick around that?
Maple syrup
I cook my oats so the spoon can stand up in it. But that does not work for over-night. I think you need more milk/yogurt.
Also, usually you put in oats and pour milk and yogurt on top and let it sort out itself. I once saw a recipe that said to stir it all. You can try that too.
I prepare them sometimes and they are delicious. I usually add some milk and a splash of marple syrup. I also like to add the fruits in the morning so they don’t get too soggy. But I never tried with frozen fruit before and coincidentally I have a couple of bags on the fridge so guess I’m eating overnight oats tomorrow :)
Oats is the bomb!
Yessir!!
I eat my version of overnight oats every day.
Mostly my base is Greek yogurt, and I’ll put a scoop of protein powder in and a splash of milk so it’s not too thick.
I sometimes throw cocoa in it, but usually I’ll throw some fruit preserves and honey in it. My wife can’t understand how I eat basically the same thing every day but I love it.
I’ll actually use quick oats and make it in the morning before work and eat it for lunch
She sometimes buys vanilla quark which is bit thicker than greek yogurt. That to I blend with oats, but not always adding milk. If you get the ratio wrong, you end up with something you could use to build a 5 story apartment building.
Ah yes. That time i felt froggy at 10pm. A next-morning-treat.
I also like overnight oats, your version sounds great.
I just want to call out that both rolled barley and rolled rye are very similar to oats in texture and prep. The barley has a much lighter flavor and rye has a nice burst of flavor, I like to mix a bit into oats for some variety.
Thnx! it’s appreciated and will certainly try
