McDonald’s is a real estate company. The parent company in the US owns a lot (most?) of the locations of the franchise restaurants.
Real estate appreciates over time and grey is easy to sell to another business (since it’s all commercial real estate anyway) since it doesn’t require a major remodel like some other colors might.
Because IMO at least, McDonald’s interiors went boring before the delivery thing really kicked off.
