I have seen some videos of intruders breaking in, or baby sitter abusing kids, and their cat straight go blender mode and fuck them up. Not saying it’s as reliable as a dog guarding, but I have seen quite a few instances of cats fucking people up for doing wrong.
Also seen videos of dogs just being excited about a person being there. As with everything else it’s not a black and white thing.
My brother drove into town at 3am the year I got my dog, I left the door unlocked for him. In the morning I found my dog asleep on him. Yeah, hell of a guard dog.
While my dog barks at my vehicle when I get a new one. 🙄

cat bites and scratches are also more dangerous, because they nasty bacteria that gives very dangerous infections. dogs, not so much even if they bite.
The difference is significant but not enormous. Something like 15% of dog bites and 40% of cat bites become infected. Also almost all rabies infections are from dog bites, so the idea that “cat bites are more dangerous” is pretty misleading. I think most cat bite infections result in a mild bacterial infection that clears in a week or two.
Most dogs I know would lead the burglar to the jewels for a bit of bacon or a belly rub.

One of my long gone cats would legit chase the robbers out while trying to eat them. She was half wildcat, I think bobcat, and weighed 75-80 pounds when full grown. She successfully hunted a few deer.

Nah, not a shit post. I don’t think we had panthers in the Midwest. Like I said, I have no clue what she was, but she loved me and was very protective. Had a mottled grey, brown, white fur pattern, and huge ears.

I didn’t. Others certainly did though. She was quite gentle with me, she never really got along with anyone else.

We had a big tomcat like that. If someone came in the house, all the others would book it under the bed, but Jake would head right for the visitor. He was probably hoping to make a friend, but he was always willing to fight, too, if you were so inclined. Playing, fighting, it was all good fun to him.
That’s why we get gorila, so when the burglar make eye contact with them, the burglar will need to have a pokemon battle with the pet gorila before they can proceed, plenty of time to call the cop.

My husky wouldn’t do shit. My chipoo would try valiantly to protect his home, but is too small to be effective.
I don’t want an attack dog, I’ll protect the cats just fine.
