I don’t think it’s about being able to afford it. More that he is loath to let her have anything at all on principle.

For me it more about the fact that if a court found that you or I were guilty and had to pay a fine, we’d have no choice but to pay that fine. The law has to apply to everyone, equally.

“Must”? Yeah right. If he’s not going to get locked up for not paying he’ll just keep not paying.

I’m guessing if it comes down to it the court could order banks with accounts in Trump’s name to make the payments

Others have said the money is in an escrow account, but if that weren’t the case, the court can also essentially order his physical property to be seized up to the value owed. Like, literally walk into mar-a-lago and start taking chairs and paintings and shit.

$5 million shouldn’t be a problem for him since the reported $1-2 billion he reportedly earned with crypto scams.

According to Glen Kirshner, Trump defamed Carroll again when he responded to this story. He said he didn’t know her, which is apparently the same thing he said before and already lost a defamation lawsuit over.

Kind of sad that sexually abusing someone is only “worth” $5 million. I feel like that’s not enough to compensate someone for something so horrible. Especially now that it has global attention

I get it and I absolutely agree with you. He and his ilk should be rotting behind bars. But as someone who was sexually abused and still has nightmares years and years later, I’d gladly take that $5 million instead of absolutely nothing but permanent trauma.

There should be some extra amount added for inflation, for late fees, for having her name plastered all over headlines, and so on.

Good news then, the award does earn interest while under appeal. Trump had to post a bond for the award plus interest accounting for appeal time. I don’t remember exactly how long they prepaid. The award doesn’t include extra for the other stuff though.

      Came here to say this.

Even if he were to just use the interest from a HYSA on the 2 billion he made in 2025, if I did the math properly, he could make 5 million in 28 days.

It’s just him being prideful and petty to fight this. The money means next to nothing to him.

Isn’t it technically that he has already paid, and the escrow account must now transfer the money to her?
