The Gits - I was huge into grunge and punk in the 90s, I have no idea how I missed them. Unfortunately, their singer Mia Zapata was murdered.
They only have two albums but they are both zero skips for me.
Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. If there was ever a voice of love and peace, it was a giant of a man with a giant’s heart. If I could bring one musician back from the dead, it would be the Hawaiian avatar of humankind’s best qualities.
But there may be a worthy successor to his voice.
I somewhat recently found out about an artist called Foreground Eclipse. According to the Touhou Wiki, they disbanded in 2013 and they were considered a screamo and post-hardcore metal band but because of the singers voice, they might fall under “kawaii metal” (cute metal). A good example of their music would be In A Night When Her Sorrow Resounds Around.
I recently discovered a (sub) genre too late - Riot Grrrl music. Bikini Kill is one of the founding bands.

There is this really funky band called mating ritual, and I got really into their music over the past year. After awhile I started to wonder if they were touring, and found out that they had just wrapped up their ‘goodbye forever’ tour, including a show in my city a couple months ago.

To be fair, late for KGLW can be 12 albums in or 20 albums in. The scale for them is way different. Like they formed after I left highschool and none of them have died. Eric left. Yet their discography is big enough for 5 bands combined.
Yeah, but listening to all of it, you get the sense it’s more 12 albums with 10 fluff pieces around them.
In no timeline am I ever putting Laminated Denim up against IDPLM&L, or Gumboot against Nonagon. Their bar for quality is kinda loopy.
I liked Phantom Island, a good B+ record from them with some of my favorite singles. They’re still an extremely strong band, they sometimes spend 1-3 albums fucking around before making another hit.
That’s the trick though. You will listen to all of Gizzard’s albums. Their highs are so high they get the benefit of the doubt for everything else.

I discovered Jeff Buckley just after he toured Australia. I was looking forward to his next tour, then he died. 😥
As a tween I, for some unknown reason, decided that I liked Nirvana and therefore didn’t like Pearl Jam. It wasn’t until I was much older that I realised that was silly and I could like both if I wanted.
I discovered Jeff after his death, just before his mother released the unfinished album.
He was a timeless talent. My son and his friends are big fans, even without my prompting.

Every time I heard the band name “Daft Punk,” it meant nothing to me. Toward the end of their existence I finally put the name with the music and hot damn that’s good stuff.
Yeah similar to me. I thought they were some no name one hit wonder with “harder, better, faster stronger” and only recently I realized they were very popular in the 90s already and “around the world” is from them, which is like the background music of my childhood memories.
Daft Punk. Discovered them too late to go to an actual concert.
And same with Caravan Palace. Loved the original ensemble and style, the spirit of their concerts. The current getup is nice too, but with different vocalist and a few other band member changes, it’s just not the same…
Same with Daft Punk. I have listened so much to Alive 2007 and it breaks my heart that I could have seen that show live in my city if I had not been a stubborn teen who “only listens to real music” (rock and metal).
