Different policies and rules mostly. Lemmy.ml has a ton of weirdly pro Russia and China admins on it. Very tankie Stalinist. blahaj.zone Is really nicely queer friendly. dbzer0.com has a cool anarchist hacker culture etc.
For me the problem I have with lemmy.ml is that that if you disagree with Russia’s invasion on one news community you’ll find yourself banned from the Linux community.
Man, if you feel excluded by shitposters on a website, imagine how excluded you would feel being lgbtqa in a country where 40% of people think you are an evil disgusting degenerate who will go to hell forever.
Now imagine living somewhere where 75%of people belong to the same damn cult and about half of people want to kill you because your existence disproves their culty religion.
Yup! They work really hard to create a strong queer space. That means they work hard to exclude bigotry and the like, even in its micro aggression form.
Which explains why they hate bi men, nonbinary folk and intersex people so persistently. Not queer enough for y’all. Hence why I left them out of the acronym.
Bigotry towards bi men and non-binary folk seems very much not like them.
Are you a bi man or non-binary person? If so I would be interested hearing what sort of discrimination you faced at blahaj. I recommend them quite a bit but would rather not if they are hateful in that way.
Okay, so a fair amount of what I’ve seen is bi erasure, and as far as nonbinary bigotry, it’s pretty similar. Nonbinary folk don’t truly exist, whatever that means, and are either male or female kind of how bisexual folk are whatever their current relationship is. The women’s stuff community on blahaj professes to be Trans and nonbinary inclusive but if you are not explicitly female they will harass you with a candy coated “fuck off, you are not female enough”. Not really seen much on else blahaj but have from blahaj users.
Complete AOL blast bullshit, but I figured it wouldn’t take Nazis long to take over blahaj. It’s the sort of thing they’d find funny.
Yahhhhh. It’s a rough situation to be a non tankie on a tankie instance.
The issue is that a lot? a majority? a great majority? of users there have very “out there” opinions and more and more of them are trying to be more subtle about it.

I have found blahaj to be… Exclusionary in the usual lgtqa ways.

Don’t have to imagine dude.

I’m sorry. I’m not on blahaj.

First, do I have to be a bi man or nonbinary to care about bigotry toward them?
No, but I’ve seen my fair share of concern trolling.
I am neither a bi man nor nonbinary and care, but I value my time.

That sounds not so nice. Is there an example out there or the like?
Ugh. This is still the issue with Lemmy, confusing instances, somewhat random federations, strong cultural differences.
I used to like my instance but now it is done.
Just constantly a mess to be social here.
That explains why people have been hostile to me by default even though I presented a balanced front (in my eyes)

Avg .ml user: Long winded post about why war is bad Avg responder: I agree war should be avoided for the harm it causes. Avg .ml user: Therefore we all must support Russia against the imperialist Ukrainians! Avg responder: Russia started the war. Why should we support them? Avg .ml user: Because NATO forced Russia to invade. In reality it was NATOs fault! Avg responder: I wasted my time here. No point in arguing. The average non .ml user has been through this or seen this enough to be cautious of seemingly reasonable balanced arguments from .ml users.
I totally get staying, but personally if I woke up and my account was on .ml I would move.
