get back to work dessalines

Welcome to lemmy.ml , where we’ve rejected reality and substituted our own!
Don’t mix Adam Savage with such a stupid community!
Oof, it’s a shame that this cretin has created Lemmy; I can only hope that other instances block lemmy.ml so they can stay in their own delusional little space without bothering the rest of us.
Dessalines makes a relatively good piece of software for completely the wrong reasons, but he won’t stop us from using it for our own purposes and we don’t have to acknowledge him as the “leader” of the community just because he runs the software project. That said, I’m also glad we have alternatives like Piefed, in case he tries to enshittify us out, we have alternatives.
That’s what I appreciate about open source software…People are free to make our own alternatives and connect with others using that software and infrastructure! We aren’t trapped by any means and can migrate to the growing alternatives. I’ve latched on to fedia.io and Mbin which is actually a stable version of Kbin (the original creator was going through it and need to take time off). I can connect with Piefed users from here, so there’s no reason to make an account there (Fediverse rocks for this reason).
However, my reference to Dessalines was more about tarnishing the creation known as Lemmy with his mad ranting about falsehoods and other tankie nonsense. He’s just a flawed person that is still sleeping, desperate to avoid the truth and glaze countries that are the worst to their people and others in the world. Likely knows that if he pushes it further, by limiting the use of Lemmy it will come crashing down. Somewhere in the fever dream that traps him, sense still exists.
Loving Piefed on desktop, looking forward to switching to it on mobile at some point too.
Installed Boost beta and switched this morning. So far so good!
Piefed gang!
Interstellar does work with PieFed (and Lemmy and Mbin), if you’re using Android. It’s getting a fair bit of development activity relative to the app that I mostly use on Android for Lemmy, Eternity, but it’s also younger and still rougher around the edges, IMHO. I would keep an eye on it, though, if you’re interested in a PieFed app.
They’re also adding iOS and MacOS support, though neither appears to be complete as of this writing.
I believe that it currently has the widest OS and instance support among native Threadiverse apps.
This is why I switched to piefed. It even has support from apps like Voyager and Boost.
I also just got banned by dessalines from asklemmy on lemmy.ml for saying lemmygrad and hexbear has tankies which apparently violates Rule 1 - No Bigotry.
Same here, with a bonus Rule 4 “ads/spam”, plus dessalines got so mad he banned me from all the communities I interacted with, and the entire instance for 3 months
Lemmy is wonderful software. The metaphorical artist leaves much to be desired.
The piefed user experience has been far superior so far. And less “baggage” for now.
I run a single-user PieFed instance and am happy as a clam with it.
How much data transfer per month does that use these days?
Judging by what little I have at my disposal (my Proxmox summary), netin is the lion’s share of it.
Here is a clip for you:
How mature is the platform?
The last time I looked, they didn’t even have proper version numbers. I don’t see a formal “Join Piefed” prominently displayed in a major top search result. It’s suggested to me that it’s less popular but growing. It appears they have such a join page, but it hasn’t worked its way up to the top of my search results just yet.The last time I looked, they didn’t even have proper version numbers.
investigates
The bottom of the main page on piefed.social reads:
PieFed v1.1.1 is free and open source.
Their releases page seems to have versions:
https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/releases
The releases seems to be tagged in their git repository:
https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/tags
I don’t see a formal “Join Piefed” prominently displayed in a major top search result.
I probably wouldn’t search for “join piefed” myself when aiming to use piefed, but okay. I don’t know what search engine you’re using, but on Kagi, the second result for “join piefed” after PieFed’s project page is:
PieFed - Open Source Federated Forum
join.piefed.socialNope you’re right. I should’ve put more effort into it. I’ll edit it my comment.
It started of rough. Just like Lemmy. But it’s gotten fast patches in the first few days of this server opening to the public. Right now as a user it’s pretty transparent coming from Lemmy.
You just have better blocking, better cross posting. Better profiles. Better tags in piefed communities etc. As well as a number of other small things.
There was a release a few days ago which improved things a lot, and they seem to be developing quickly. There are only very few features I’m missing now (e.g. uploading images in replies, but this is coming in the next version).
I prefer how Piefed collates comments from posts on different communities. E.g. see here.
Hmmm. You just reminded me to update, thank you.
Yep. It’s great for engagement and discoverability. I wasn’t aware of the image upload thing. I tend to link. But great that they are on it.
I’m sure there will be other hurdles down the road for the project. Honestly would be interested to hear from those that admin and host both what their experiences are. That’s where a lot of the hitches are going to show.
Images in replies works on Summit for Android when on PieFed.
You want a CTA to appear in your search engine before you deem something interesting?
No not necessarily, but it’s reflective of the maturity and acceptance of a platform. It certainly implies a minimum level of popularity. I would to see platforms achieve that in the hopes that they can really take off with general users.
Piefed looks promising, but who runs it? I can’t find any info on where the funding comes from.
Wow, that’s even better. I really like their UI and ideals.
Yes. I haven’t seen any bios of the core developers yet. But they are all set up with the graphs being very promising.
Well, you can read everything that rimu, the lead dev, posts:
What do you mean by that?
Rule 1
Fucking tool
Supporters of authoritarianism deserve the same fate as the authoritarians.
What a fucking clown.
You even said “supposedly” which makes it even worse because you’re not even directly accusing them of anything, you’re referring to the west’s view on them.
You even implied that we’re not actually morally superior, it’s just propaganda.
What a dumb thing to remove. ml gonna ml I guess
They need a certain construction of the world to exist.
The idea that most of us westoid normies are actually not in love with our regimes… Tankie needs us to be bootlcikers for their shill to op to have any meaning.
The world where shit posters don’t LARP US and EU as saints makes the tankie irrelevant from rhetorical perspective.
We know US and west is ruled by pedos who hate poor people. It sucks. Tankies can’t accept that their beloved regime also sucks.
They have bought into the Soviet/Stalinist concept of “socialist realism” where art, literature, and basically all media, have to present life in the Soviet states using only the positives, and either glossing over, or outright denying, the bad parts of reality. While this was initially something imposed upon art, like everything in an authoritarian regime, it spread to everything. Eventually it was just how people knew to act, at least publicly, and it wasn’t really seen as specifically “social realism” any longer, just life under Stalin.
If you want a good example of “socialist realism” literature I suggest checking out Cement. It is arguably the first real piece of “socialist realism”, and the seminal work that everything else was built upon.
