        I will for-real never understand the connection between “I like communism and power for working people” and “I support China and Russia.” The two statements simply have nothing at all to do with each other, they’re not compatible. I’ve asked some of them to explain it to me, and the closest I’ve gotten to an answer has been more or less that they don’t like the US, so they will support an enemy of the US, no matter how horrifying the enemy is or what crimes they are committing or whether they are communist or not.

        Congratulations, guys, you invented CIA logic. It was one of the dominant forces making the 20th century worse, which is saying quite a lot, and now you’re deep-throating it like you’re training for an event.

          Yeah, ultimately they are just hypocritically anti west. It’s never any deeper than that. Even when they try to deflect claiming you haven’t read enough theory. It’s like brother, have you ever thought critically? I’ve read most of C.S. Lewis’s books of fiction. But I’m not constantly expecting any lions or witches in my wardrobe.

            Yeah. Even if they were just anti-West, it would be fine. I talked with someone around the first time Trump got elected who was super in favor of him, and he explained to me “The US keeps fucking up my country, and so if they put a moron in charge and he fucks up your country instead then (a) good (b) you deserve it © maybe then you’ll leave us alone.” I had absolutely no room to disagree with him. It made perfect sense.

            But on Lemmy, it’s never that. It’s always “There is no genocide in Xinjiang you’re just deluded by Western propaganda anyway it’s all NATO’s fault that half of Ukraine is a big rubble field and graveyard and Russia never lies, here watch Tucker Carlson and Dmitri Peskov, there’s a couple of guys who’ve got their heads on straight.” I guess it is cognitive dissonance, nobody wants to just say “Yes I am on team murderer because I don’t like your government, and regardless of what I say or do my guys are going to keep killing Ukrainian kids, so what’s the point of my trying to say they shouldn’t.”

          The difference between anarcho-communists tankies and regular communists is that anarcho-communists tankiesbeleive any means are necessary in achieving a communist society, even the violation of human rights and the rise of fascism.

          They’ve deluded themselves into thinking dictators like Stalin, Mao, Putin, and Xi will at some point decide to benevolently create an equal society instead of holding on to wealth and power at the expense of their subjects.

          I mean I was super happy to see when I first came to Lemmy and found out that communism and so on were common. It shows a healthy exchange of real differing views, it’s more similar to the old internet or BBS culture where you can find people who are for-real doing their own thing, not just Facebook or Google News or whatever other nightmare that the chaotic landscape that used to be the internet has become.

          Since then, I’ve gotten more familiar with them, and the shine has come off the rose a little bit lol. But I say that because of the particular breed of hard-authoritarian communism and all these dishonest and hateful ways of interacting that they all seem to have, not because I have a problem with communism.

          im guessing if they are in thier niche subs, like a pro russia or china one they are safe. the mods sometimes can escalate the ban to an admin if they get pissed enough, the new thing is reddit has increased thier anti=spam filters.

      A couple of issues, on Lemmy “block” isn’t block it’s barely a mute. The only way to get a true block, is to be site banned by an instance. This is likely the way dessalines wants it, because it’s quite ridiculous.

      And it doesn’t help retain new users who might not be clued in on needing to “block” them. Scaring away new users. It will only get worse, if everyone “in the know” block them, then who will be left to downvote and show resistance to their “viewpoints”?

      And it still allows misinformation “articles” to spread and fester via the network, causing harm. To users, to the rep of the Threadiverse and its growth.

      The only real answer is as wide a defederation as the rest of the triad is treated

        That’s the problem I have with communities with people of the same opinion, safe spaces, circlejerks

        They will have a huge confirmation bias, be comforted in their beliefs and this might be harder and harder to revert, and might make people more extreme

      Code is code, open source is open source.

      Lemmy is coded to be a link aggregator type social media, there’s nothing inherently political about it.

      It’s the fact that they use their supposed “test instance” and their influence as the Lemmy developers to spread their “message” because they know that it’s going to be difficult for other instance admins to defederate from the “Dev instance” that’s the problem.

      And indeed that’s pretty much what’s playing out, most instances defederate from the first 2 of the triad fairly easily, but when it comes to the .ml instance admins are hesitant. Even though .ml allows much of the same crap, just “tempered” under the surface.

      I don’t really want to use any software when the administrators/developers of this software do not recognize the genocide of my people (or other peoples) and speak similar tankie nonsense. Lemmy is not very popular as it is, and I don’t think it will become more popular if the administrators/developers are… like this. The good thing is that it’s open source, and there are alternatives.

          Normally, yes. However, the Lemmy devs thrust themselves into the spotlight with their words and actions (dessalines themselves has posted Tankie content, just recently a meme about the DPRK dictatorship being “western propaganda”) through their instance

          If they just had alts on grad or hex that no one knew was them, or hell ran grad or hex with said, we wouldn’t be here on this comm today.

          Instances would just defederate them and move on, but they don’t want that because it reduces their audience.

        But calling for a boycott of a dipshit’s instance using the thing that gives his instance its power is just… I would use a simile involving McDonald’s but lemmy is still reddit enough that NOBODY will ever look at a metaphor in good faith.

          I think you’re missing the point of what a boycott is accomplishing in this case. I don’t think it has anything to do with their financial situation, the boycott is presumably (from my perspective) to lower interaction and engagement and make it a less attractive instance for new people to get sucked into.

            That’s entirely the point. The less traffic .ml has, the less influence it has over the overall Fediverse and the less their harmful authoritarian views can be spread. New users that sign up on Lemmy are constantly exposed to their curated extremist views and get banned for dissenting, which puts a bad taste in their mouths and they tell everyone else what a tankie shithole Lemmy is. Dessalines and Davel are actively harmful to the entire platform with their behaviour.

      Having observed some different types of team dynamics in my day, I feel like Nutomic is clearly the one who does most of the dev work and Dessalines the one who makes most of the noise and pisses people off. It’s a fairly common dynamic.

          Well, but that’s just a bad opinion. I don’t think we need to go full-on attack mode against any particular person who has any particular “incorrect” opinion even if it is hateful or whatever. People can just talk it out. I’m probably in the minority on that, I know that it’s popular at this point to go on the attack against anyone who steps on any one of a set of particular rhetorical land mines. I just feel like by doing that, you aren’t really educating anyone, you’re just introducing coercion into the equation and teaching people to be dishonest about what they believe if they don’t want to get attacked.

          The issue with Dessalines that I haven’t seen from Nutomic is that he requires everyone else to have bad opinions, too, and will ban or attack them if they ever express anything other than his own bad opinions, on certain topics. That’s a lot more toxic to me than someone just saying something that I think is ignorant.

      I ditched lemmy and went to piefed exactly for this asshole (dessalines).

      Also I don’t get why some people defend said asshole while there have been tons of threads roasting in unison software like Brave or Hyprland or IDK what else for their dev being transphobic or racist or whatever. I’m not a fan of either of those, but it just doesn’t make sense to me.

      The software is open source and free. As long as it remains so, whoever is developing it is of little consequence.
