Siding with dictators is an American tradition
Usually the dictators were American Puppets, Not Foreign Advesaries who’s sole interest in working with America, is to burn it to the ground so that it can never threaten their plans ever again.
Russia is mentally stuck in the 1600s and wants an Empire, wants it back. or at the very least, be the Shot Caller of Europe. China wants to be the world Hegemon Iran wants to be the shot caller of the middle east.
All of these countries have a vested interest in seeing America out of the way, to persue their own plans usually involving mass murder of enemies
In our defense, it’s an American tradition as much as a world tradition in part because the world used to be mostly dictators.
