I was talking to my daughter about her sick uncle and probabilities and the goddamn worst thing happened. I saw a dice on the table so I picked it up to demonstrate an improbable outcome.
I called “im going to roll a six” then rolled a 6. Well, thats unlikely but its a one in six chance. Highly unlikely i could do it again…
I rolled at least 6 6’s in a row. By the 5th I was convinced it was a loaded dice. I confirmed it is not a loaded dice on roll 7 or 8.
Fucking what the hell universe
you rolled double satans! wow!
Missed opportunity. You could have bought a lottery ticket instead
It might not be too late. All 6s!!!
I hope her uncle gets better
It’s trying to tell you that long odds will happen too in an infinite universe
According to a probability calculator I just used, six dice getting a 6 is a .002143347 % probability. Nice!
A die.
“Dice” is plural.
Just don’t do that with the uncle.
Rolling it the same way, holding it the same way each time, you’ve got much higher odds of rolling the same number than 1/6!
This is not true except for very obvious trickery like placing the die.
If the dice “roll” in any meaningful way the outcome is completely random (except some die may favour some outcomes because of weight and balance issues). Even the tiniest variations in where they land, how they’re held, and how they’re thrown, create massive differences in outcomes. It’s not possible to change the odds through consistency, that’s the whole point of things like dice or double pendulums or any other such chaotic system.
That’s the explanation I think it’s correct. Otherwise it’s a 1 in like… 46.6k odds? Not impossible, but certainly is an odd time to hit a minor jackpot.
That was beautiful. 🥲
Typical. You always have luck when you don’t want it!
