For me, if I ask for an unpopular opinion and you say something about pineapple on pizza I’m going to assume you have no personality.

Most of our heros in movies actually kind of suck. They are for the most part only able to solve the world through violence because by some magical or supernatural or just bad writing, in an absurd position to do so.

I blame this on why I have more people willing to literally kill or die for me in my life then willing to engage in uncomfortable dialogue or eat more fiber for me.

“You like cream and sugar, not coffee.” Just, I couldn’t stand to try and argue with the guy because it matter so very fucking little to me but enough for me to remember the inanity of the argument.

I like my sugar with coffee and cream, actually.

When people say this about a frou-frou latte, I just tell them I don’t actually care - I usually drink black decaf but if I’m paying 6USD for a coffee, I’m making them work for it.

I don’t really like doors. Not their function but their design. Everyone’s just satisfied with the status quo, like basically the same door for millennium, and no one thinks we should innovate?

What do want to see different with them? Share or appearance? Do you want more saloon-styled doors or should they have more texture and decorations? Or should they open in different way?

Im imagining some of my house mates over the years and the inconsiderate nature in which they closed doors in the middle of the night. It’d be nice if that didn’t have to be a concern. No idea what could be done, but so many nights it effected my sleep. Its my biggest pet peeve.

Perhaps a sliding door with a cushion or something like it on each side, making it sound less if slammed open? Or a door closer arm would do the trick.

“Unpolular” is relative to the target audience. I’ll relate to my own social circles here:

    I actually like Nickelback.

Sure, they’re not exceptional, but mediocrity is hardly a sin (unless it’s AI slop; fuck AI slop). Sure, their music is made to be safe, commercial rock, but that just fills a neat, chill gap in my music taste where LoFi should be (but isn’t; never really vibed with it).

It’s not the extent of my music taste either. I like Drumstep, Deathcore and plenty more. I just also appreciate some “boring” rock occasionally.

    “Kids these days.”

Shut up, kids have always been shitty, adults have always been shitty, there was never a point in time where anyone ever wanted to talk to a stranger. We all suck all the time and always have, your generation wasn’t any different just because you used different slang and wore different clothes.

I recall some Roman writer complaining about the worthlessness of the youth and how Rome was doomed.

Just before a boom of conquest.

Moralising elders waxing nostaltic have probably been around longer than preserved writing.

      Edit: it was Horace:

aetas parentum, peior avis, tulit nos nequiores, mox daturos progeniem vitiosiorem.

Our parents’ era, worse than their ancestors, bore us still worse, and soon we will give more wicked offspring.

Text and translation obtained via Wikisource: Horace, Odes 3.6, published 24 or 23 BCE, during the earlier years of the reign of Octavian Augustus.

We could argue about the quality of a youth that bowed to what would be a monarch in all but name, but it’s hard to deny their courage and effectiveness in battle, which would have been an important virtue in Rome at the time. That “wicked offspring” stabilised an Empire wracked by decades of civil war and unrest, expanded it and by Horace’s standards should have been quite honourable.

(Note: this is not an endorsement, just commentary on the mentalities of the time)

The pineapple on pizza thing is one of them. It can be done, I mean, just don’t make the pineapple chunks overpower the taste of the other flavors of the pizza itself or just add something like ham slices or whatever to make it more palatable.

Or you know, shut the fuck up about pineapple on pizza and don’t fucking bother. Such a stupid trivial thing that took off for absolutely no reason.

    Modern music is fine.

I think one of the least self-aware thoughts someone can express - and that I hear often - is that “music now isn’t as good as it was in <decade of my youth>”, then they’ll go on to name the top five acts of that decade. Go back in time and listen to the track that was at number 53 in the charts on some boring week in mid-August in that decade and it’ll almost certainly be absolutely tepid mediocrepeice made by a forgotten artist and no better than the song that was playing on the radio that caused the comment in the first place. By the time that Josephine was coaxed onto that Flying Machine pop music had long been established as a commercial product to be produced at industrial scales. No-one alive today grew up in a generation that had exclusive access to “real music”, and if anyone tries to use that phrase to describe Motown in particular you have my permission to stab them in their eyes with a spoon.

This and people complaining when they only listen to the top 50 songs. "Nobody makes good insert genera here anymore! They do, their just below 1k listens. The insane amount of talent below the 100k and even the 1k listens mark is insane and I often find myself going “how the fuck does this perfect to me song only have 1k listens!”

You’re completely right, there’s an insane amount of incredible music made in the last 20 years, it’s just not popular. You can’t find it on the radio or in the charts, you have to find it like a hidden treasure.
