    Freaking love looking at other people’s books (or board games for that matter). Allways so fun to find something you recognize or something new that sparks your interest.

        Of all time? … gees it would be hard to pick. I’m really enjoying DCC now so Dinniman is up there. Also enjoy Andy Weir. But in the past I would have said Arthur C Clarke or maybe Douglas Adams. Orson Scott Card, William Gibson, Asimov, Bradbury…. It really depends on my mood. But sci-fi and now litrpg are my go to genres.

        In the pic it’s kinda hard to read the titles of some of the books (likely because I’m on my phone) but if you haven’t checked out He Who Fights with Monsters it is also a very good series. And you absolutely have to check out the audiobook for DCC. Jeff Hays is a god. I read the first book and then found the audiobook. It takes it to a different level.

          lemmy downsampled the photo anyway, so the details are a bit hard to see. I love the Clarke books! There was one about moon dust, i forgot the name, but it was very impactful when i read it as a kid. . I don’t know Gibson i’ll look them up. I think Bradbury is my favorite of all, small short stories but plenty of “quiet” ideas that sit with you. I think Asmiov really shines in short stories, i found the foundation series went on a bit too long and kinda repeated the same gimmick over and over.

          I’ll take a look at He Who Fight with Monsters as well.

          The original hitchhikers bbc radio radio dramas sit well with me more than the books, i will check out the DCC audiobooks for that reason alone, thanks for the pointer.

            A Fall of Moondust maybe? thats the only one I can think of about moon dust. My favorite Clarke was probably the Rama series and of course 2001, 2010, 2061, and 3001. Honestly I liked the Rama series more but don’t tell anyone. So many Bradbury stories I read when I was younger (high school, college) but my two favorites are probably A Sound of Thunder and The Martian. I was so psyched about the movie for A Sound of Thunder (yes they made a movie) but it was just ok.

            And speaking of impactful, have you ever read the short story “Think Like a Dinosaur” by James Patrick Kelly. Pretty sure I read this for a college class but I still think about that story to this day. And The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester. Also think about this book a lot. No idea way. I guess I was impressionable at the time :)

            You should make a list instead of just the pic. I’d love to see what else is there.

              Yes - A fall of moondust! Rama was really a great story both about meta-structures where we are not the main character, and how human colonies morph over time - it wet my appetite for Ringworld - which i cannot recommend enough.

              I’m partial to Bradbury’s “There will come soft rains”, mostly because a civilization has echo’s through time and even if ours falls we are not totally gone.

              I have not had the pleasure of reading Think Like a Dinosaur yet, but i will soon!

                  I think Niven is my favorite author, if you enjoy ringworld you will enjoy his other books as well, but he has a huge collection of short stories you can get a taste with first.

        First picture, 3rd shelf down, second in from the left. He wrote 2 I believe. Then into a corner. It’s mixed reviews in my opinion. Basically the reviews go like this to me, those who understand the “narrator” of the story is the main character, so he talks himself up and tells stories as if he was magnificent (he grew up in a circus, thus putting on a show is what he always knew). Then there are those who dislike the series because he is good at to many things, which I don’t agree with, because I think he is just telling a tale with his side of things.

        For instance… A man wouldn’t tell a story where he said he disappointed a woman in bed, he would skip those, and only talk about the story where he thought he caught something he didn’t think he should be able to, and did well on a way he could tell a story about. (Misogyny maybe, arrogance sure but it’s a character)

          Forgot the authors name: Patrick Rothfuss.

          Also if you like books by him see: Peter V. brett and Brent Weeks. (Everyone says Brandon Sanderson so I figure I’ll put him last. My ex-spouse says he’s amazing and ever if we aren’t together anymore, I’ll say she knows a good author… So I havent read him, but he’s famous now)

            Wow I’m tunneling. Sanderson is the one that finished The Wheel of Time series, and also “may” finish game of thrones for R R Martin if he ever says, yeah the ending in the show sucks.

            Dude can churn out 1000 quality pages a year like it’s nothing

          Also for those who may question a person would tell such tale, he is telling the tale to someone writing his (auto)biography? So if you told your lifes tale would you talk about how you got rejected at 20 or would you skip that and talk about how you landed something beautiful at 20 you believe was a 10, describe as a 10 while others may say they were a 7. Beauty and story. Was Athena beautiful… Doubt… what does time tell
