An English professor is suing the president of a Florida college that she says fired her for assigning a story that he called “political,” according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday.
The story, Ottessa Moshfegh’s “Bettering Myself,” is an award-winning story narrated by a fictional teacher who drinks to excess, uses cocaine and discusses sex with her students.
The instructor, Vinita Prabhakar, said in an interview that she had taught the story in her classes for nearly a decade without incident. But in February, according to her lawsuit, the president of South Florida State College, Fred Hawkins, objected to the assignment after a student expressed “mild discomfort.” The president told Ms. Prabhakar that he would not want his college-age daughter to read the story, the lawsuit says.
Do not cater to the idiots, they will destroy you.
It’s a college course. These are adults in a classroom. If the school is any a good the students will be given challenging and difficult material. Trying to force a comfortable ruleset into a university means the university ends up being a useless time wasting, expensive paperwork mill.
Any challenge to their regressive ideology makes them “uncomfortable”. That’s why they start screeching whenever they’re exposed to different points of view from their own.

Which makes this all the more insane. Somebody is “mildly uncomfortable” and so they upend their professor’s entire life.

Why do you have any say in what your college age daughter reads??
