A handful of lettuces and other greens are starting to bolt, so I’m glad I seeded out another set last week in a different bed. Our replacement peppers are much happier than the old ones, which is nice.

Juniper and I were out picking strawberries and haskaps/honeyberries yesterday. Nothing made it inside, but she was having a blast and was very excited to help out. I was very excited that she was receiving immediate rewards for following directions (beyond praise).

It’s uncomfortable enough at the height of the day that I’m potting inside my little workshop in the garage, reserving the early and late hours for field work. Remember to help yourself out with lots of water and good electrolytes!

What’s growing on with you all?

I’m so happy to have the herb garden in full bloom again. I missed being able to just step outside and harvest a bunch of different herbs to cook with. I made mac and peas for dinner last night, which is pretty much what it sounds like, a light Parmesan cream sauce with macaroni, peas, and every herb within reach.

The tomatoes are starting to fruit, too, so quick garden tomato sauces are on the horizon.

My son brought a bean stalk home from school without support. It was the tallest in his class and he was so proud. But he brought it home with no support. It bent over in a few places and explaining it was not going to make it was…rough.

This is a weird year in terms of rain and temperatures. Hot may, cold June and long wet or dry periods. Many of my plants are lagging behind because of it, but are now picking up some steam. We’re seeing the first tomatoes on the vines, the melons are getting established and the runner beans are climbing their poles.

In terms of harvests: we were able to harvest lettuce and now are picking delicious strawberries every day. Gooseberries and currants are also ripening.
