feddit.de went down when the server’s disk ran full which corrupted the database, and by the time the admin (who was on a sabbatical) reacted, all backups had already been overwritten with the corrupted data.
The issue was that the instance was running on a single server, run by one person, who pays for it out of pocket and doesn’t get any money back.
But my guess is, that’s true for all but the biggest instances.
From speaking with other instance admins it seems the head admin is not currently able to be contacted…
There is another lemmynsfw admin active in our chat but they do not have access to any database backups.
