Edit to add my opinion so I’m not just replying “I agree” to 90% of comments. I think it should be legal, properly regulated, taxed and viewed as a profession. I haven’t personally engaged in it but I have no moral objection to it. I do hate the common sentiment that it was the individual’s “only option” though.

Is it? Or is it pragmatic rather than pessimistic?
People dont just neatly fit into boxes, to be dismissed as having singular motivation that is all completely surface level. Every single person you meet and deal with will have a complex and unique history that defines them as a person, just like you. And just like you, they may dismiss you as just some simple-minded fool who does things for obvious reasons.
I think you need to interact with more people and learn what pragmatic means. The statement laziness doesn’t exist is absolutely out of touch with reality.
Then it’s a good thing I’m an antirealist. We shouldn’t be pressuring others to believe in reality, it just reinforces bigotry and oppression.
Hell yeah sibling.
