I get that the NY Times and others want to have subscribers, but it seems reports of this sort serve the public interest and should be available without a paywall/login.
I think we shouldn’t need for-profit news sources to provide us with factual information, but if public interest reports are free, what news can’t be argued to be public interest? And would anyone want to pay solely to access those fringe stories?
The entire concept of “for-profit news” is a conflict of interest.
That’s a good argument. I would say election results, not the commentary/analysis should be freely available. It says at the bottom of the graphic that the results are from the AP. Perhaps there’s some extra value analysis included in the NY Times article.
Meanwhile Trump is destroying public media.
I would like public interest info to be free, but recent events also highlight the importance of separating media and state, both organizationally and financially.
I would say that Trump is one result of the media having been destroyed long ago
For those that want a bigger picture the result has the state house back to being a 50/50 spilt. At the same time though the ICE siege pissed of the people of the state so much even State Republicans want out so strike while the Iron is hot Minnesota politicians, don’t just call it a day because “trump said they are deescalating.”
