Wedges are fried often times. At our nation-wide supermarket for example, at the ready-made counter, wedges are definitely fried. Same with the mom and pop chicken shop down the street.
Not everyone uses alarms for sleep/wake.
Sometimes it’s good for a forceful reminder at a specific time when it’s easier to pick a time than calculate a timer length to end at a specific time.
