Trump thinks inelastic demand is when people want non-stretchy pants. I think he legitimately thinks this will happen and is just stupid.

For a start my understanding is that China doesn’t actually export much end product pharmaceuticals, it tends to export lots of the chemical precursors. So if companies moved their production to the US they would find that a large amount of the precursors they need now have 104% tariffs applied and they can’t compete with production in countries with less insane trade policies regardless of what tariffs go on the end products…

      Yep, all according to plan.

Kapo Stephen “PeeWee Himmler” Miller has said he wants to reduce the population from 335 million to 100 million white people. This is one step toward that.

When it’s not working, it’s working.

There was an antiperisitical that my spouse needed that’s OTC throughout most of the world, but prescription only in the US. It’s been around for the past 50 years and manufacturing cost is 4 cents a pill.

It’s $250 per pill in the US. She was supposed to take 3 pills total.

I ordered a 6 pack from overseas. It was $18 total shipped to me.

    Fuck the US pharmaceutical industry.

It would take years to build out the necessary infrastructure in the US to do everything Trump is fantasizing about. Here’s my guess as to what will likely happen instead:

All the major corporations, seeing how unpredictable the US has become, will instead pour piles of money into Democratic coffers thanks to Citizens United. Between that and the damage Trump inflicts over the next two years hopefully the midterm elections will give the Democrats the ability to impeach & convict him, or at least pass veto-proof legislation to rescind his tariff powers.

At least that would be a more economical way to deal with the issue…

Interesting prediction. Here’s mine: American companies will see the isolationist policies and chaos as bad for business, and just pack up and leave.

International companies will. American companies will go out of business. Taco Bell will buy up the rest.

The easiest and cheapest way for large corporations to deal with the issue is by giving Trump kick-backs, in exchange for special tariff exemptions. This is why tariffs are a gold-mine for corrupt practices.

Much of the new manufacturing will be highly automated, to minimize the human factor.

Those that aren’t automated, will be Asian-style sweatshops, with low wages, no unions, teen labor, no health/ safety/ environmental regulations, no benefits, no minimum wage, forced overtime, no overtime pay, harsh working conditions, discrimination, sexual harassment. etc. When unemployment is in the double digits, especially in smaller municipalities, people will jump at the chance to work any job.

Some people are excited at the prospect of those high-paying manufacturing jobs coming back to America, and nobody is dissuading them of that idea, and nobody from the media is asking about it. But think about it for a second - if the Sociopathic Oligarchs want to restart manufacturing in America, why would they emulate the model that drove manufacturing overseas in the first place? They have the chance to create an entirely new business model for this, does anyone honestly think they are going to do it in a way that benefits American workers in any way? Or will they structure it to exploit our labor force as much as possible?
