Dutch beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde, who served time in prison after he was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl, won his second match at the Paris Olympics and received an even harsher reaction from the crowd on Wednesday than for his first match.

I’ll take the downvotes, but I worked as a therapist for people on parole and probation in the US.

Its nonsensical and antisocial, yet basically the norm, at least in the US which is my reference, for people to pay their debt, serve their sentence, only to find every asshole with an opinion waiting to keep kicking them to feel better about themselves. Yet we do. Any chance to revel in superiority to an easy target.

Either kill everyone who commits a serious crime like the barbarians most of us seem to want to be, or let people serve their punishment, hopefully be rehabilitated, and then root for their success as a member of society as we all should yet almost never do, at least here in the US.

Its not for them. It’s for society. But keep booing this person who very much seems like they’re trying to be better if it makes you feel good. I’m sure that will send a lovely message to future ex-cons about whether they should try to be better when they get out or just say to hell with it.
