In the past three days, Russian troops, backed by fighter jets, artillery and lethal drones, have poured across Ukraine’s northeastern border and seized at least nine villages and settlements, and more territory per day than at almost any other point in the war, save the very beginning.
Wish the major News networks would cover this more, instead of just Trump court cases 24/7.
I’m pretty tired of the high proportion of politics in news too. And election years are worse.
However, it’s also not very common that you have a candidate and ex-leader being in court.
And, well, end of the day, what we see on here is what we submit. This is a link-aggregation service. If you don’t want political news, submit other stuff. If you really want, it’d be possible to create a community that does only non-political news, or other specific subsets. I remember that Reddit had some subreddit devoted to positive news, to address the disproportionate coverage of negative events.
EDIT: This community is actually an example specifically of such a subset already, as it excludes US-only news: “Not United States Internal News”. I imagine that someone in Slovakia or wherever doesn’t want to be inundated in a deluge of stuff that only people in the US care about.
However, it’s also not very common that you have a candidate and ex-leader being in court.
I’m not saying don’t cover it at all. Its historical, for sure.
I’m just saying don’t cover JUST THAT and nothing else.
They want you to think the Ukrainians are winning until they are defeated.
Too bad Ukraine can’t be protected from Russia the same way Israel is protected from Iran.
I mean it could, if they wanted to. But having Ukraine and Russia fight a long war of attrition is in the US strategic interest. The more resources Russia wastes in Ukraine the less of a threat it is. The more Ukraine is destroyed, the more the rebuilding can be used to scoop up investment opportunities at a huge discount.
However this gamble ultimately requires a stalemate and Russian withdrawal or a demarcation without much Russian gains. As we saw with the Reps being undermined by Russia, this careful balance can be shifted in Russias favor anytime by delaying aid.
The same problem exists in the EU where Russia is successfully propping up its agents, however the EU has a decisive strategic interest in Russia not to win and shouldn’t risk it.
From what I’ve read, this is mainly a distraction. Russia hasn’t committed enough troops for a serious invasion of Kharkiv oblast; their objectives is to tie up Ukraine’s reserves and keep them away from the fighting in the east.
