    I remember thinking it mostly showed how sexist country fans can be. No one said shit when Johnny Cash was openly against the Vietnam War…

      Public approval for the Vietnam War was at 34% in 1971, when Singing in Viet Nam Talking Blues released.

      Public approval for the Iraq War hit a high of of 80% one month after the Dixie Chicks’ comments, so I think it’s a safe assumption that it was in the high 70s when they spoke out.

      Had they waited until it was politically convenient to speak out, they probably wouldn’t have had the same level of backlash, but they had more spine than that.
