Naah, it’s true. Human skin ages really fast when you spend alot of time in the sun. Ever since we got computers and consoles, people don’t spend much of their lives outdoors. Oh, and better food options. Probably smoking, but it’s not that major when it comes to looks.
I do believe that joke is that in the 1990s, the meme viewer was young, and saw people in their 30’s as old and decrepit, but in 2026, the meme viewer is old, and sees people in their 30’s as babies. (The comparison about spending a lot more time outdoors and in the sun might hold true for the 1890’s.)
I live in a major smoking country. I have yet to learn how to tell one has been a long smoker. It just isn’t obvious like with alcoholism and sleep deprivation.
That’s where I see it differently: I started college back when, then returned much later to finish my degree, and found that the students were somewhat more mature. They kind of had to be, what with everything (admissions standards, tuition costs, housing costs, managing social media presence) in life getting harder. People in their 30’s back in the '90s had more breathing room to fuck around, and still do okay. The difference isn’t really that profound, and for the most part people then were a lot like people now.
I think it’s moreso that my generation generally couldnt give less a fuck about how other people view them compared to expressing themselves.
Like idgaf if you think Minecraft is for kids, been playing that shit off and on half my life and still watch some LP YouTubers, fuck you if you think that makes me immature cause I’m paying my bills like everyone else. (Not directed at you ofc ;))
I think these labels are reversed.

I viewed this as people in the 90s were much more mature. We’re a joke now and it’s true.
