The Irish Defence Forces is mainly tailored for internal security against paramilitary organisations like IRA groups or loyalist groups like the UVF. Thats what its for.

Ireland is not concerned about the threats facing NATO countries. And there is no credible threat of invasion from anywhere.

There is no credible threat because Ireland is an island on the west coast of Europe and there are no hostile countries in range that have the logistical capability to mount an amphibious assault at this distance.

Visiting officials are third parties. The threats against them are not threats Ireland faces.

Why would Ireland spend massive amounts of money on a military budget just to provide temporary security for some meetings when those expensive military assets would no longer be required once the meetings are over?
