Am I alone in thinking Stranger Things wasn’t modeled after Twin Peaks in any way, shape, or form?

That was intentional, they forced him to make it into a two season show and he showed them what happens when you try to force David Lynch to do something that compromises his vision.

“So… you want me to completely fuck up my original concept, eh? Yeah, sure, I can do that.”

I feel like Stranger Things went from must watch tv to not even sure I’ll ever watch the finale simply by word of mouth. Is the final season really that bad? I was excited for it at the end of season 4, then it seemed like the season came out and it cratered the show in 2 days.

Unpopular take: I actually found it pretty good. All characters got their screen time and the main characters all got a resolution that felt satisfying to me. The action scenes were good. I even liked the revelation of what the upside down really is, though I would’ve preferred a slightly different version of that explanation.

Different unpopular take: it was the same quality all the way through and that was 5% cool monster ideas, 20% average TV, 75% “shmacting” through long exposition.

I was really into the series while it aired. It was so long until the final season came out I no longer cared if I watched or not. I did though. It was okay but nothing spectacular.

Yes, it’s bad. It’s not super bad, or anything (this isn’t GoT) but the more you think about it, the less sense it makes. It mostly just rushed, not well thought out conclusions. Some conclusions create glaring plot holes (the upside-down explanation makes it impossible for the Russians to have opened a portal to the upside-down, for instance).

Mostly it commits the most egregious sin of not taking itself seriously. End of S4, shit is completely fucked in Hawkins with the ground being ripped up by the massive portals. Beginning of S5, the portals have been tacked over with sheet metal and never once matter.

Is the final season really that bad?

No. It is perfectly fine to great, in parts.

There is some media literacy required to understand a few things that are called plot holes, aren’t, is the worst I could say about it.

The hate is about as real as that of the ragebait videogame situations.

What have been called a plot hole?

To me, while not great, it felt like a neat clean up of all the threads that had been started.

        Mild Spoiler

The only problem is that it solves the question of Vekna by pushing it back in time, so there are still questions there

          Tap for spoiler

I thought it was hilarious that the protagonists (L and that other chick) cared about exacting justice against the military, and then nuked a bunch of captive pregnant women in the upside down

Didn’t they say they were going to come back for them?

Okay, in Jerboa it looks like you need the space between “:::” and the “spoiler” and there can’t be empty lines, it’s got to be the spoiler header, then the line you’re marking up, then the closing tag? At least that’s how my test looked to me, but maybe my other tests screwed up the parser 😛

Hmm, I’m in Jerboa, but it typically has spoiler tags. Maybe it needs a space between the colons and the word “spoiler”?

It had nothing that made the first season(s) interesting. It’s not horrible, just incredibly boring.

Honestly I thought the finale was good. Great? No.

Thinking back on the show I remember it positively. I don’t think I’ll ever be massively eager to rewatch it ever again, but if someone asked me if they should watch it I would say sure give it a go.

It wasn’t a catastrophic ending like Game of Thrones was. That is a show I wouldn’t even bother to sit down and watch knowing how it ended.

I think if I were to do it again, I’d call it good after season 1

Same feelings as you on it, but I think season 1 held the magic as far as rewatching needs goes and is pretty self contained

What’s up with the random upsurge of Twin Peaks memes? I just started my rewatch 2 months ago and suddenly it’s super relevant again? Am I taking crazy pills?
