        Not the ones I’ve worked for.

        My last job was with a company run by HR experts that had the good vibe that startups have despite being in business since the 80s.

        They knew and internalized that happy employees were productive employees. When I officially got hired by them, one of the co-CEOs asked what I thought a fair salary was. I gave a number that was slightly above the national average, and he said, you’re not getting paid that. You’re getting paid $30k more.

        I get that companies like that aren’t common, but they definitely exist. But they often are ones who are happy with the size of the business.
