It’s fucking daft of people to constantly bash Mamdani more than most other politicians in the US even though he is one of the better politicians in the US. All because he checked if NYPD could arrest Netanyahu and of course found out that they didn’t have the jurisdiction for it.

I’ve seen their posts a lot and they often leave a bad taste in the mouth. This is the first time I’ve realised what their username means

He ran a campaign on basic humanity and openly opposed Israel, claiming he’d even arrest Netanyahu if he came around, only to take it back. Assuming he’s intelligent enough to understand the logistical nightmare it would be to act righteously in a country built and run on heavy immorality, that was always an empty promise, right? So, whatever he might stand for in earnest, I know he at least is willing to lie on something so massive to get ahead. For many people who have no concept of ethics, this is whatever (“everyone lies all the time either way/ purity tests!!!”), but for the rest of us it is an indication that he might not be the man for the job. Better than the alternative, sure (kinda like Hassan v. popular white supremacist influencers), but ultimately most likely inconsequential in the war for humanity and against the powers that be/Western imperialism and primarily in it for themselves.

If I recall, he said he wanted to but needed to have his staff check if he has the authority to. They found he did not. That’s not the same as lying.

I mean you’d have to be extremely stupid to think it’s legal to just arrest people without any domestic legal justification. Did he really not know?

Checking whether an arrest warrant from the international criminal court is enough justification to arrest someone domestically isn’t the same as just attempting to arrest a normal civilian, and you know it.

There’s nothing to check. Everyone knows the US isn’t a signatory to the ICC. What possible justification could there be to even look into?

Plus from my recollection he was pretty adamant about out. It wasn’t like “I doubt it’s possible but I’m going to turn over every legal stone just in case.” It was something he campaigned on doing.

Following the story it didn’t seem to be a lie but a public signal of where he stood when it came to Israel and it’s genuine violation of every international law there is.

I mean, do people really think they can elect a single candidate to completely change everything about everything? The mayor has to work with the state government, the federal government, a ton of bureaucracies and established systems, all of which are dedicated to serving their own interests over those of the people they purportedly serve.

Yes, hold people accountable, but also let’s be realistic about one person can accomplish in less than a year.

Also hella sus that Trump seemed to like him after they met. Though I’d still rather take my chances with someone like that than the DNC mainstream …

Trump likes anyone he meets who flatters him in the right way. You insert the proper praise and deference, and the Policy and Poop 5000 will spit out a supporting opinion.

It’s how the whole thing works.
