Hi everyone,
I have a HP 15-fd0xxx laptop that I no longer need and I’d like to give it to someone who will put it to good use.
The laptop is in good working condition and will be given away at no cost.
If you’re interested, leave a comment explaining how you’d use it. After a few days, I’ll randomly select one person and contact them via DM.
I’ll cover reasonable shipping costs, depending on the destination.
Thanks, and good luck!
I have one student every semester who cannot afford a laptop and I’m forced into a curriculum that requires it. I usually work with said student and have them use their phone or my laptop (hopefully I don’t need to present). I would give it to a student.
i donno about reasonable shipping costs, but you seem to be on the other sode of the pond. i will leave it to another contender.
as for everyone crying cause of a potential keylogger: you are lookin at the privacy sub, and not tech savvy enough to reinstall an operating system on a laptop? fuck off. all of you.
Sorry for embarrassing you, OP, but I’m pretty sure that this isn’t a HP but a dy
Then there should be dx on the bottom side.
That joke was a bit derivative
op did it intentionally and is trying to scam people out of 0000000000000000 dollars. like how many zeros is that!
unbelievable
There must be a student that needs a laptop bit cannot afford one near you. I think that would be a good way to move that laptop. Preferably a kid that hates big tech and wants to learn programming and create awesome FOSS software 😏
I would use this mostly for banking and storing identity related documents.
I would also put all my personal logins, and passwords in plaintext. Together with a copy of the entire corporate SharePoint as backup. I’ll keep it connected to am unsecured network like the local McDonald’s as well.

Hi, I checked your profile and it has no history aside this post, I most agree with the other people that seems a bit sketchy, would you mind giving some background info?
Whoever receives the laptop may be able to figure out the address of the sender. Perhaps OP just doesn’t want their real identity tied to their main account.
My wife could really use something like this. She’s been wanting a tablet or something to make use of when she has bad days and can’t get around much. My old thinkpad works okay, but it’s old at this point, so slow as molasses, even with Linux on it, meaning it frustrates her to no end.
I’m not participating, but to avoid further suspicion, how about uploading a video of:
- The boot process from a powered down state
- Accessing/logging into the OS and showing system information
- Showing the serial number, which have to match with what you shown in a separate picture here
For uploading the video, you could do something like BUZZHEAVIER.
If you’re not fake, nice gesture! 😊
I’m interested to see what sort of keylogger or rootkit exists on it
If it is malicious, let’s hope it’s at least in the BIOS/UEFI. Would be a shame to go through all the effort and have it go to waste when the Windows partition is wiped before the laptop is even turned on.
Yeah, if you’re trying to honeypot someone with an OS-level rootkit, Lemmy would be a pretty silly place to do so. After all, there’s like a 99% chance that whoever gets it will be installing their preferred version of Linux. Hell, I’d even go as far as flashing the BIOS, because that’s an easy step that only takes an extra 10-20 minutes.
No need, just inspect the internet traffic it triggers
You’re assuming it would immediately try to do something. A decent honeypot would take time to quietly gather usage data, instead of immediately phoning home.
nice try fbi
I would use it as a htpc type of hardware for my TV
I could use a laptop for my kids. They don’t like sharing and all they have is a Chromebook right now anyway.
