The partner of the Colombian immigrant who was fatally shot by an immigration agent in Maine this week urged people not to remember him for the way he died but rather for his unyielding desire to build a good life for his family.
In her first public comments since the shooting on Monday, Karolina Rojas recalled Johan Guerrero, 25, as a tireless worker “who couldn’t stand sitting still,” an adoring partner who treated her like a queen, and a father whose greatest joy was his 3-year-old daughter.
The contrast could not be any sharper
The federal immigration agent who shot and killed a 25-year-old Colombian man in Biddeford has been identified as David Michael Brouillette.

Ashley Brouillette told the Portland Press Herald in a phone interview Thursday afternoon that her ex-husband called admitting to the shooting and defending his actions. The Press Herald, the first news outlet to report David Brouillette’s identity, reviewed a screenshot of incoming calls that Ashley Brouillette said she received from her ex-husband via his current wife’s Facebook account on Wednesday.
“He was asking me to lie for him and to cover for his character,” Ashley Brouillette said. “I told him that I was not going to lie for him. And then he tried to say that it was a justified shooting because the guy tried to hit him with his car.”

Ashley Brouillette told a reporter that she wanted to speak publicly because she had previously reported concerns to his superiors in the military about David Brouillette’s mental health.
Ashley Brouillette also described to the Press Herald her ex-husband’s abusive behavior during and after their marriage. She said she does not live in Maine and that she avoids contact with him, but he still reaches out.
She provided a voicemail from a man with slurred speech, which she said Brouillette left in the fall of 2025. He disparages her several times, asserts he’s in a better financial position than her, and states “you should have your (expletive) throats cut, yup, you should.”
“Am I threatening that I’m going to do that?” the man said. “Nope. But do I think you should have your (expletive) throat cut or should have them cut? Yep.”
That’s one brave woman.
