That would work too if you have it crash into it, ignite , then melt a hole in the shell. It could work well if you used a ice shahedstyle engine and you could cache the liquid in country by local ground support and refuel, letting you have a bigger drone and longer range and free payload. I mean, getting that scenario isn’t easy but it could work in the right circumstances.
Cost. I can sort of see some logic to it. If you know a significant amount of drones will go down then why not make some easy picks and make them dramatic as possible. Save the good stuff for the wave of drones which count.
The scenographics does hold a big part of it. Normal people seeing something which looks significant might start to see the fight is closer to home than they realise. Kind of like counter propaganda. And it’s a lot cheaper too!

If you can find those screenshots of Davel’s Russian comments, I’d seriously like to see them. I came across people on Lemmy claiming even Dessalines could be Russian, yet there’s no proof of that, even though he uses the same phrases as “the imperialist West” etc., his reddit comments from many years ago show he’s from the US, his recordings on Youtube are in native US English, etc. He just ate up some of the weirder strains of Russian propaganda along with lots of other ideas (the sort of tankie ideology seen on Lemmy is primarily a US phenomenon, I believe a weird off-shoot of Cold War pro-USSR narratives). So I’m suspicious of this blanket conclusion that everyone who spreads pro-Russia, anti-west narratives is necessarily foreign to the US.

Lemmy isn’t indexed on Google very well, and finding people’s accounts that way is nigh impossible. I found his older inactive account on Lemmygrad and that’s it, and there’s no Russian there as far as I could see. Of course, maybe he deleted the comments in question, etc.

The actual damage to the refinery itself turned out to be disappointing, as only a few oil storage tanks were actually destroyed.
Oil tanks are big, contain a fuck-ton of oil and burning tanks are a pain in the ass to extinguish. Heat damage alone can shut a refinery down if any high pressure tanks or lines were exposed. They would need to be inspected properly and that isn’t a small task. So yeah, a couple of destroyed tanks is kind of a bad thing. (Also, he just confirmed that is wasn’t an “empty strike”, employing “FX packages”. Shit got blowed up, dawg.)
