    to be clear, it is not a sexual orientation, at least not yet; it is a paraphilic disorder (a fetish that either 1. brings harm to self or others if satisfied, or 2. causes the bearer distress).

    also to be fair, homosexuality used to be listed as a “sexual deviation”. our standards on what is considered a sexual orientation versus a paraphilia may change with time; case in point: pederasty was a socially-acceptable thing in ancient greece and rome.

      The labeling does not change the fact that the person does not having it voluntary. The key difference is just that one is (usually) between consenting adults, and the other is not.

        well, technically, that difference is what separates paraphilias from paraphilic disorders.

        that being said, i am in complete agreement that it is not voluntary, and that bit is a commonality between sexual orientations and fetishes - i did not choose to be sexually attracted to men, nor did i choose to be sexually attracted to dragons.
