A recent report has revealed that a significant number of Australian teenagers under 16 are still accessing social media platforms, two months after a nationwide ban came into effect, raising questions about the efficacy of age-verification systems.
Data from parental control software firm Qustodio indicates that over 20 per cent of 13-to-15-year-olds continued to use popular apps like TikTok and Snapchat between December and February.
Who could have foreseen this?
Other than everyone, probably no one.
Especially not legislators and regulators that don’t share the same reality as the rest of us.
Technologically stupid politicians are shocked right now. Turns out putting up a “no loitering” sign doesn’t prevent people from loitering.
Oh they did foresee that, that’s why the next step is setting up identity verification for everyone - which is obviously needed to protect the children! How could you possibly be against that!!!
Tbh in case of most social media I’m not sure that would be worse than the platforms are themselves.
