    On the third hand: This is not paving the way for positive change in Iran, if anything Khamenei just became a martyr and his successor will be more powerful.

      I mean, we will see about that. Maybe, that’s true, maybe not. There are huge protests in that country every few months. IMO, it’s a matter of time until it collapses.

        It is, but not all change is positive change. The replacement could be fascism, or US vassals (setting the stage for Islamic Republic 2.0), or literally anything other than a healthy democracy, and a war of national survival does not at all bode well for the latter possibility. There is such a thing as good conditions and bad conditions for democracy.
