Jamie Raskin tells CNN Democrats will seek unredacted version of Jeffrey Epstein files after 3m pages released last week

Democratic representative Jamie Raskin, of Maryland, has slammed the Department of Justice’s release of the Epstein files as “a full-blown cover-up”.

Asked on CNN this morning whether Democrats were going to see to the unredacted files, Raskin said, “Absolutely.”

“We sent them a letter and so we’re demanding a right to do it. I hope the Department of Justice will keep its word and let us in there.”

A reminder that US deputy attorney general Todd Blanche said on Friday that every woman’s image had been redacted, adding that if any members of Congress wanted to see the unredacted material they should contact the DOJ so that could be arranged.

Raskin went on:

“Remember, they’ve said there are six million potentially responsive documents there. They’ve only released three million with more than 10,000 redactions. So we have to go look at those redactions. They’ve not sent us the explanation yet for those redactions. But then what about the other 3 million files?”

“Because we are witnessing a full blown cover up. Remember, not only is there a subpoena to attorney general [Pam] Bondi to turn everything over to Congress now; there’s a federal law compelling them to turn it over, and yet we’re just getting the dribs and drabs of information coming out of this stuff that they want us to see.”

To the suggestion that three million files was not “nothing”, Raskin added:

“Well it’s close to nothing when they’re deciding which documents are coming out and there’s a federal law and a subpoena compelling them to just turn everything over to Congress.”

“And they said that they had done this process many months ago, and there’s nothing to see there.”

    Are you saying that the corporate / political pedophiles … don’t functionally deserve the death penalty?

    I wouldn’t mourn them but I don’t believe an ethical criminal justice system executes its own people, no. I also don’t believe any criminal justice system performs executions via a gunshot to the face so lets not pretend that’s what you were talking about.

    Or are you saying because I, myself, a currently crippled person, who doesn’t own (and can’t afford) a firearm…

    Guns are surprisingly cheap. And considering that if you decided to be an assassin your life would be effectively (or perhaps literally) over, it’s not like you would need your other possessions anymore. If you were serious you’d sell them. You’re not. You’re waxing rhetoric about how someone, anyone, who isn’t you should do this for you.

    Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying.

    There are tens of millions of gunowners in this country, I am commenting on how ludicrous it is that in this highly armed society full of people drastically more capable and better equipped to do take the shot, nobody has yet.

    2 people have tried to assassinate Trump. They failed, and it’s doubtful if the one who survived will ever be released from prison. That alone is a pretty compelling reason why nobody else wants to try.

    It is ridiculous to me that in a country full of suicidal mass shooters, none of them pick worthwhile targets.

    Those people are mentally ill. They don’t want to change the world, they want to get a high score.

      … is of comparable fitness and capability to wield a firearm, you know, with the intent to surivive the encounter, as an able bodied person.

      Uh lets see here, specifics;

      But I believe its the only solution for the people who the system will never touch, because they are its prime operators.

      A well done firing squad execution is probably actually more humane than death by lethal injection or gas chamber, guess you don’t know much about how that actually works either.

      It is infact possible to survive and even escape an assasination. Luigi survived his. Others in the past have escaped totally.

      You seem to just think it is impossible to do this. Extremely difficult? Yes. Impossible? No.

        I own several guns and there’s guys in wheelchairs at the range that shoot better than I do. Convenient excuse, though.

        I don’t think it’s impossible. I think you asked why somebody doesn’t do it and I gave you a myriad of reasons why they don’t and asked why you don’t do it yourself.
