Clips of people knocking on the doors of day care centers purportedly run by Somali immigrants are being viewed millions of times online. Critics call it harassment.

A social media frenzy that began in Minnesota over allegations of day care fraud has rippled into at least seven other states over the past week, as conservative journalists and right-wing influencers have embraced the idea that they should investigate state-subsidized child care centers, especially those run by local people of Somali descent.

In the days since Christmas, conservative content creators have been showing up at day care centers from Ohio to Washington state, recording videos of themselves trying to interview employees and expressing suspicion over whether the centers are legitimate businesses. Like Minnesota, Ohio and Washington also have significant Somali populations.

Many of the people making the videos are affiliated with small conservative websites or have ties to political groups. The clips have been posted to X, where some have racked up millions of views and praise from viewers, with help from a network of prominent right-wing influencers on the platform who share and reuse the content.

It’s basically the same set of people that fell for pizzagate - a conspiracy theory about trafficking children out of the basement of a pizza parlor with no basement.

If we make it out of this we need to go after the platforms that allow and sometimes promote this shit. Pushing this kind of conspiracy crap is going to lead to people (and likely children) getting hurt.

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said that the allegations of fraud at Minnesota day care centers is “so big, it’s so important, because it’s going to unlock a lot of other storylines that we’re going to see play out in 2026.”

    Calling it “storylines” tracks.

What is it with these people and children? It’s always a new angle to get themselves close to other people’s children.

They know you MUST defend the children, so it’s a way of ensuring you’ll be afraid of them. It’s just more ways to inflict cruelty on everyone else by using children as hostages against us.

Serious answer though? All parents get extremely emotional about their kids, most of them about kids in general. Combined with fear it’s like the ultimate political motivator. This is constantly being abused by politicians around the world - but MAGA have taken it to perverted extremes. Distorted it beyond recognition.

These dimwits just can’t stop thinking about children and are obsessed with child rape. Watch them closely for sex crime arrests in the future.

I’m worried they’re going to provoke someone into shooting up a daycare

Of course they are, and that will just feed the narrative / give them an excuse to put more troops on the streets / allow them to swoop in and place all such daycares “temporarily” under government control “for protection” / give added fuel to the eventual argument for martial law.

All that is old is new again.

    https://www.vice.com/en/article/the-online-conspiracy-theories-about-a-salt-lake-city-daycare/

I recall 8chan at the time getting really pumped about uncovering pedophile conspiracies up until they found a google drive folder filled with raw child testimony videos for CSAM and general child abuse. 8chan had uncovered some Salt Lake City social services/child protective services program and basically doxxed them. They quickly ran out of steam after that.

I think this has mostly been memoryholed so I can’t find any specific articles about it. The Vice article focuses mostly on Reddit’s involvement.

After trans people, teachers, librarians, immigrants: let’s kick down some more!

As if state-subsidized daycare needed more trouble.

    Fucking monsters.

[ of course the “down” is only in the fascists’ minds ]

This is just yellow journalism, but on the internet. Nothing new about racists spreading lies.
