I’m gonna be that annoying cunt and say that this community is way too much of a sausage party to be making this kinda joke. I would love to read it as “haha lol that’s me” but in this community it comes off as “lol dumb woman annoying”. Misogyny is a massive problem on reddit, and we should try harder to create a more welcoming environment for women here.

I honestly thought this was a joke about this character specifically. It didn’t come off as “dumb woman annoying” to me, it came off as an in-joke about how this character. I didn’t watch GoT but obviously we all know bits about it by osmosis, I thought one of the main things about Cerci was that she is like, super paranoid and reacts to plots that aren’t there, sort of a Caligula/Nero type? Or maybe Tiberius I guess, I don’t know how malicious she was written as.

Rereading it, I can see how someone might take it as something mocking women in general but I feel like someone doing that is actively looking for something to be upset about.

FWIW I initially just took this in the context of the source material, Game of Thrones.

Cersei Lannister (pictured) comes from a noble house whose sigil is a lion. They use a lot of lion metaphors. One of the quotes from her father Tywin (in the show at least) is “The lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.”

Cersei as a character, though, is a bit of a hot mess who makes it her business to concern herself with everyone.

How do you know how many women vs men are here? Is it just assuming man unless they decide to tell us their gender and be “that person”?

Yeah but this is Lemmy. There’s far more overlap between ‘sausage party’ and ‘women’ here than most other social media can even handle.

And like, I never watched GoT nor read the books but still caught the reference. So this doesn’t feel like a form of arcane misogyny.

Yeah Lemmy is a million times better for sure, though especially in these communities I feel a strong male slant.

I watched GoT and read the books and don’t quite get the reference. It reminds me a lot of the way some dumb Breaking Bad fans see Walt as the cool hero and Skylar as dumb annoying woman. I dunno I’m probably overreacting based on other unrelated negative experiences

On lemmy there are multiple women-only communities that reach front page regularly.

If you pay close attention, they also post here.

I’m suprised how many (at least claim) to be women around here.

Misogyny is saying women are anxious overthinkers? My man, that’s reality. Would saying “the lion snores so loud he wakes himself up” or “the lion farts his way into climate change” misandry?

The lioness sees danger and offense where there is none!

Lionesses plural? Herself singular? What’s your high school GPA?
