I bought a PS3 years after it was released, partly just to play MGS4 since I was a big fan of the OG and the 3rd game.
Couldn’t have been more disappointed, personally. It has a few highlights, but overall I found the story just felt really off, even for a Kojima game. It was particularly boring, convoluted, and unsatisfying. Honestly wished I had just watched it on youtube instead.
Other than that, I kinda struggled to find other PS3 exclusives that peaked my interest. The Ratchet & Clank games it had are pretty good. Motorstorm is a great racer, but other than that… At least for my interests, the rest of the library is pretty underwhelming. Ended up selling it without regrets.
I was into ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, so I was waiting for The Last Guardian before getting a PS3 (it wss originally supposed to be a PS3 game). It ended up skipping the PS3 and getting released on the PS4. I got to play the remaster on PS5 and, hoo boy. All the performance issues I remember reading about in the OG release were also there on the remaster. It has been, so far, the worst performing game I have played on the system. Even Dragon’s Dogma 2 was better at launch (and way better now after all the patches. Still a crap game tho).
Ahh, damn. I did quite enjoy Shadow of the Colossus (haven’t hit ICO yet). Shame to hear TLG is so troubled, I haven’t been compelled to pick up newer consoles, and with that news, even less so.
If it wasn’t for Bloodborne, the Demon’s Souls Remake, and getting a rando $2000 from the state, I wouldn’t have even thought to get a PS5 myself. I just lucked out and had the money to justify getting it for just the two games. I lucked out again earlier this year and got a Switch 2 I did not order with stuff I actually did, and i’m probably not even gonna touch it until Duskbloods comes out because I just don’t really care that much for Nintendo games anymore.
