A record 70% of Germans are dissatisfied with the work of the country's government, according to a new survey conducted by the INSA pollster for German newspaper Bild.
The left party had the only pratical solution, tax the rich so we can support infrastructure, education and everything that is necessary for a functional socialstate. Also they simultaneously would have had tax relief up to upper middle class. But unfortunately people are to dumb to vote for their own interests, so this won’t be a thing.
The reality is German industry was doing very well for workers post WWII and up until 2000s, German built meant something. But from 2000s, German industry outsourced and sold off the “German quality” brand. They high paying trades jobs dried up, 8 week vacations dried up while industry globalized and enshittified everything. They spread all over Europe with the EU, which was designed to bolster the problem of the high German mark. But by 2025, China is making everything cheaper and better and German products are just overpriced.
And due to social media dominance, the far-right party (AfD) is set to become the strongest power with the next election if things don’t change.
Mind you, that party has been confirmed to be radical by the constitutional protection agency; that assessment has only been temporarily retracted because they got an injunction against it that now needs to be resolved. Court procedure is the only thing keeping them from being recognized as a threat to the democratic order.
The other major parties see no reason to comment on this, especially not the conservatives. Those same conservatives refuse to rule out a cooperation with the AfD, instead wanting to “face them on content”. That means parroting their talking points and then acting surprised when this doesn’t drive voters away from them.
In previous elections I voted for the pan-Europeans who, in a saner world, would be steadily on track towards beating the 5% cutoff. Unfortunately, right now the far-right threat is too big for me not to hold my nose and vote strategically. I’m not happy about that.
But hey, who knows how long that’ll even matter? Like always in such a situation, I expect the AfD to use bullshit delay tactics to stretch that injunction until after the next election, get voted into power, and then kill the investigation. Because rules don’t apply when you have enough backing. And I’m deeply afraid of what they’ll do to the country as the governing party with a conservative lapdog rubber-stamping everything they say.
Unfortunately, right now the far-right threat is too big for me not to hold my nose and vote strategically.
This mentality is exactly why Germany is failing, it’s why “liberal democracies” all around the world are failing. Voting for liberals who have proven to be failures and will continue to be failures, purely out of fear of what will happen if you don’t, means that the conditions which led to the rise of the far right will continue to worsen, which sets up the far right for an even bigger win down the line. Just like “vote for the Democrats to stop Trump” was a failed strategy in the US, “vote for SPD/CDU to stop AfD” is a failed strategy in Germany.
And worst of all, while you’ve been conditioned by the media to be so afraid of one fascist party coming to power, you’ve failed to notice that fascists are already in charge.
While you’ve been conditioned to be so afraid of “losing your democracy” you’ve failed to notice that you’re already living under repression, censorship, state surveillance, a violent police state that defends Nazis and imprisons you for protesting a genocide, with regime-aligned media brainwashing you 24/7 with propaganda, ruled by corrupt politicians bought and paid for by lobbyists, unelected Brussels elites working for corporate interests, and warmongers selling you fear and hysteria while destroying your future and your children’s future for the profits of arms manufacturers.
you see, the afd WAS the strongest party in the last election already. also: the afd is not the end of the world. germany is not what it used to be in the 20´s where the nazis were backed by the petty-bourgeois which made up more than 30% of the german population - so a big chunk of the german capital with a lot of political and economic power.
an afd-cdu coalition (because let´s be honest that is likely going to happen if things continue this way) is “just” going to mean that the welfare state dies off quicker and frontex kills more people than it already does. not full on fascism in a NSDAP-Sense. (it´s still going to suck to put it mildly)
Do we have 100% safety tho? ehh… i wouldn´t die on that hill though. things occur at every waking moment.
