A TikTok account called @basincreekretirement has gone viral for its funny and heartwarming Halloween costume videos featuring “senior residents.” But the people, home, and even the laughter aren’t real.
I took a peek at that app last week- even obviously AI videos are crushing it with clicks and comments saying “this is AI” do nothing but increase engagement.
Of course it isn’t. A large number of the population is easily misled by even mediocre AI generated content. Which generates clicks, traffick, and thus revenue (through ads).
Why would a company with the sole priority of generating revenue, care about things like being truthful or legitimate or real, when that doesn’t generate revenue?
And the viral TikTok creator is crushing it on clicks. I don’t think this is going away anytime soon.
