Oh this is going to bring back the three strike bullshit. Never mind that prison conditions seem to have been a factor in the assailant’s development of schizophrenia

Alternate headline: “CNN platforms and legitimizes Trump propaganda after blonde, white woman falls victim to crime”

What happened here is a senseless tragedy but there is no “debate” about crime stat trends. Trump sending his goons to invade and take over a city isn’t a “debate” it’s a coup.

Thousands of murders a year in the US, but when a pretty blond woman gets killed by a minority it’s in the news cycle for weeks

The problem here is not the crime, it’s the failure to either get this man help or to ensure he is separated from the public. More police could not have helped here.

The Republican parties of Mecklenburg County and North Carolina announced plans to hold a news conference Wednesday “to bring light to the failure of Charlotte’s Democrat leadership, including Mayor Vi Lyles, to ensure public safety” after Zarutska’s killing.

Of course, if the guy had shot this poor girl, these same Republicans would be shrieking that any whisper about gun control would be taking political advantage of a tragedy. But it’s somehow fine when they do it.

How about you Republicans stop using tragedies like this for your own personal and political benefit and start talking about addressing the mental health crisis in this country that has been building up since the Reagan era? But oh no, we can’t do that. We have to cut spending helping the mentally ill and the homeless and on anything else that might possibly help these sick people and protect the citizens that they might be a threat to because BILLIONAIRES need more tax breaks. Fuck you assholes!

Crying “mental health” is a distraction from the disparity in wealth. It’s patronizing and ineffective. The vast majority of people forced into mental health care see it as a joke and a punishment, just like rehab.

People are miserable and lost because the only paths that seem available to them are serving for peanuts or taking advantage of others.

We need to start looking in different directions and valuing different things if we want these problems to be solved.

You’re right in some ways, but also people with schizophrenia need help whether they want it or not. They are, by nature of brain chemistry, incredibly prone to interpret it as conspiracy or government overreach, but if they don’t have these issues under control they’re at risk of hurting people or being hurt themselves.

Schizophrenia isn’t a “the world was shit and I didn’t have hope so I went crazy” disease. It’s a combination of biological predisposition and a trigger that can be anything from drugs to stress and in this man’s case seems to have been a prison sentence. It’s why people with a predisposition to Schizophrenia should avoid cannabis and psychedelics.

I don’t like locking up the mentally ill. As someone disabled I’m acutely aware of how badly disabled people are sometimes treated by the system, and given that I have loved ones and relatives who’ve been committed for and against their wills, I want very much for commitment to be less awful and only when necessary, but sometimes it is necessary and I’d like it to happen before people get hurt

The vast majority of people forced into rehab may view it as a joke and a punishment, but it still gets them sobered up.

        Ask me how I know.

Me calling them a cowardly subhuman had everything to do with their actions and nothing to do with their race. If you can’t understand that premise it’s on you.
