The question of whether you’re paid extra would depend on if the job is salaried or paid hourly.
When I was in grad school for chemistry in the U.S. some people would work very late or even all night, but I think we all pretty quickly realized that their work quality suffered a lot when they did that, and it was more of a mess to pick up the pieces later than if they’d just rushed the work for two days on a normal sleep schedule. There were some unavoidable situations like running a very slow reaction that requires hourly measurements for 24 hours, but people who tried to continue working the day after that were generally really grumpy and mistake prone.
Some professors talked a big game about sleeping in the office but I don’t know anyone in my generation who seriously does that. Now that I’m older I think they either had trouble with their home life, a really bad commute, or were on their way to burn out.
Yeah I’m a useless yuppie and I love how genuinely helpful the workers at Ace are.
