  • I’m just old enough to have been a smoker while it didn’t carry quite the same stigma that it does today. I remember using these machines in hotel lobbies and gas stations, and they were always so bad. It’s bad enough as it is but these were on another level of bad in every dimension. Dry, dusty, probably fully decayed in parts, probably peed on a few times and left out in the sun/rain to dry/rinse. My parents didn’t really care that I was a smoker, but I can’t imagine my reaction if my kid started smoking and buying dead cigarette packs from motels. I am glad these things are gone.

  • That is very cool. I had an accident several years ago where I had a stuck chain on a DIY electric bike motor, and I was trying to yank the chain out from between the frame of the bike and the front chainring where it had gotten stuck, and the motor engaged and took my hand around the spindle of the motor and just about pulled my right ring finger off my hand entirely. I spent that summer with a pin in my ring finger and attached to my pinky finger with a splint, and I had to learn how to type again because I’m a programmer. I ended up using Karabiner Elements with a script that would map the keys on the right side of the keyboard to the left side of the keyboard while pressing down a certain key. I ended up using a USB foot switch to put it into this mode that would let me type everything with my left hand, and when I push down on the foot switch, it would essentially turn my left hand into my right hand and that worked pretty well, but I never, ever want to do it again. Good luck with your arm this summer!
