Do you mean ‘state level’ as in nation or like the individual states? No individual states are perfect, but a bunch of them are at least doing things you can be proud of at least in a discrete(as in disjointed from the whole) way if you can’t be proud of the whole state.

Historically, violence is the only way to stop fascism. But if you want to play the fascists game of just going over the lines so you don’t respond with violence, don’t be surprised when they win. If you cant see the difference between violence to fight fascism and violence that is fascism then you’re a kind of ‘both sides’ person I don’t think has what it takes to stop fascists.

As important as the presidential is this year the locals always have a large impact on a lot of non insignificant things, and sometimes massively significant things, as well as the ballot initiatives. In almost any race I can respect the choice of abstention, but if you don’t show up for at least the ballot initiatives, the closest thing the US has to direct democracy, then I just think you’re not even trying to make democracy work. I know I can’t say the gym isn’t working if I’m not even trying to use the equipment.

Obamacare did not give us healthcare. It mandated purchasing insurance and made insure follow more human rules. There are still plenty of people without insurance who instead take tax penalties every year. Sure it’s better that what we had but it’s not healthcare like normal nations have.
The mall near me used to be a place where kids could get together even if they didn’t have money to spend all day buying things. They made a rule that young people in groups of more than 3 would be treated like a gang. I have no sympathy for them losing patrons.

Can’t say I disagree with any of that, Federally the US is a mess and it’s why state differences can be so stark and go from places like California, a place that would have like the 5th largest economy in the world if it was it’s own country, to places like Missouri that has significant amounts of poverty that resembles developing world poverty.
