I know it’s unrealistic, but what would it take to return to a previous type of Internet that wasn’t so siloed and marketed, and filled with dread Internet?

I would love to revisit some games, but the online aspect is a big portion that I’ve been missing. I would love to revisit some of the world’s people created in little big planet. Is that possible?

I was a picky eater as a child. There are tons of foods I didn’t like and would not eat. As an adult I’ve been challenging myself to try these foods again. The most dramatic difference in what I tasted versus what I expected was just fresh cut strawberries. I was at a wedding and they had a fruit display. I tried one, and then I got more. It turns out that a lot of the foods I didn’t like as a kid were either not the right temperature or bad quality.

I think in this context it means to be a “helicopter parent”. One that hovers over their child ready to act. I compare it to a smothering style of parenting

I have a friend who worked relatively high in big tobacco. He rationalized that his job is going to exist no matter what, and that if he takes it, he will be able to benefit and do something about it. I don’t know what he meant by doing something, but it didn’t seem to eat at him. But either way he only worked there for about 2 years before getting recruited somewhere else

I will report that I have not tried uploading books via WiFi to my kobo, but I have had such simple and straightforward success by plugging the kobo into a laptop and simply dropping book files onto it like an external drive. Kobo handles the rest

I started with jellyfin, and eventually let my partner convince me to pay for a lifetime pass for Plex. Plex just has better functionality. Not only can I access my library from anywhere, the subtitles work without fiddling with different srt files, the error messages are much more descriptive, and I find the documentation for adding OTA antenna and DVR functionality much more comprehensible with Plex.

I like jellyfin for what it is, but Plex makes it all work with far less headache and much better support. So Plex wins, in my mind for now.

And with all that being said, I got my Plex lifetime pass a few years ago, so the value I have will not be the same as yours if you are just now starting to consider Plex, so I can understand why you might have a different opinion

The real concern is the quality of the patches AI are making. If they are badly trained (i.e. learning with buggy code, which is all of it over time) then there is a possibility that it can introduce bugs that did not exist, or possibly do nothing to patch the bug, while adding incoherent code to an existing codebase

As a software developer, it is a known best practice when you are using external software to use a specific version. Never use “latest” except in testing and development. Once it’s ready you pin it to a version ( which can be the latest version, just make sure to actually specify that version id). Then again I’ve never set up an *arr stack before

Back up whatever data you want physically on your computer before doing anything. While still using your Mac os, take an external drive you are okay to wipe clean, then reformat it to an .ExFat file type (so both computers can read the drive easily)

I haven’t experimented too much with different distros, but I would say Ubuntu has a Macintosh feel to it to me. Linux mint is what I use for my gaming PC, and it works fine, but between Ubuntu’s and Mint’s terminals, I like Ubuntu’s way more. It’s a bit pedantic, but I just prefer it that way

Yes. I had a hybrid position pre COVID that was 2/3 days a week home at alternating weeks, due to a lack of available desks in our office building. That was always nice when I worked from home. I enjoyed doing laundry during the day and being able to stop work and immediately get to switch off, as opposed to the days in office where I’d deal with driving home and traffic.

I switched to a fully in office job when Covid hit, and our office when fully remote. Other than training and onboarding, I haven’t been required in office since. I love remote work. I won’t go back unless I have absolutely no other choice

Primitive technology. There are many imitators, but the original is a man on his own in Australia. His videos focus on building structures in the woods. Starting with river mud, he will make a furnace in order to make bricks in order to make a building to sleep in in order to use it for kiln drying for larger structures etc…

In my experience, the matching part doesn’t really mean anything other than the conversation between the two of you is now possible. Both of you need to participate in that conversation. And it needs to go well if it means you’ll have a date. The statistics are not great for men, and nothing is organic about the process, so you just have to protect your feelings and understand that if they don’t talk to you, or if it doesn’t go well, it can be for any number of reasons.

Try your best to not get frustrated, because each individual person is doing their own thing, it’s not you versus all potential matches. You are you. They are them. It just doesn’t work out sometimes

I would want to do so many things. I would want to do a ninja warrior type course, but with adjusted gravity or something. I’d make it into a gym with everything I need for my workout. That or maybe recreate a sports stadium and watch football from today, because I missed all of it? The possibilities are endless
